Author/Misc info: The mods folder contains ALL of the files in one spot. You can follow the instructions contained in the file for integration into your BS2 standalone training folder or pull out the missions. By doing so, you can replace the current in game training button on the main menu that displays videos and replace it with one that will show these missions instead.

Ka-50 AFAC Mission for DCS World 1.2.0 and Slmodv6.0+

 

Multiplayer coop 2 and single player multiplayer versions available (for the "single player multiplayer" version, you must run the mission with multiplayer, but there is only one slot and you spawn with an AI wingman so there is no effective difference between it and single player).

 

Key feature: use smoke rockets to mark targets for AI Su-25 flight. The targets that you mark with smoke will be attacked by the AI Su-25 flight.

 

Requires Slmod version 6.0 or higher.

Whilst I am no expert in Mission Editor, I have spend sometime with it, I dont design missions, but have downloaded as many old blackshark missions and converted to latest dcsw format as I could, so I can play multiplayer with a few buddies.

 

Your missions are among some of the missions I have been testing to get to DCSW 1.2.x format, but I generally find that too many triggers, units, and flight types (cas, intercept, Bombing, etc) get changed to inappropriate settings when upgraded from say blackshark 2 (1.1.1.1) or blackshark1 (1.02) to DCSW Blackshark 2 (1.2.2).

 

I have also battled with numerious Mission Editor bugs of varying degrees over the previous patches to DCSW which have also broken a lot of missions with the AI not doing as is should - most seem to be fixed as of DCSW 1.2.2.7250.

 

In my opinion, It is a shame that the trigger logic gets quite broken and or deleted, but I have all versions of blackshark, and try to compare and check the logic in the original version the mission was designed for, to what is represented in DCSW blackshark.

 

It is a very pain staking exercise for some missions such as yours with a lot of trigger logic and flags and I am sure the mission will not function identical to the original. (It just gets just to hard or time consuming sometimes ).

 

Process of Fixing:

 

  • First, load mission up in DCSW Mission Editor, resave mission to see if it will save, if not find issues causing mission not to save - usually flight set to wrong type (player, client, ai), inappropriate advanced waypoint commands for class (CAS, Bomb, intercept, transport, etc), (Bombing, Search and Engage)
  • Check Flights for type of role, ie a bomber that had a bombing advanced waypoint command may have been assigned to a CAS class - so now the bombiing command is an inappropriate task, needs to be changed back to a bomber class.

 

  • Check Triggers logic are all there, some are usually deleted - due to a reference to a unit that doesn't exist due to being deleted out of the asset list or was renamed in the DCSW version of BS2.
  • Once mission will actually save - start playing game to see if it is doing as was intended. I usually put in some AI drivers for player vehicles and fast forward mission and use camera mode to watch what events should be happening via scripting.
  • Final phase - play online with buddy so see if we both like it :thumbup:

 

I like the hectic style of missions such as yours and would like to think that all that hard work you put in has and is still being used today by myself and others.

 

I am for one am definetly getting some use from them, they may not work as your originals did, but they are as close as I can get them with in the time that I want to spend converting them. THANK YOU.

DCS Ka-50 - Night Moves

 

A mission using call-on-demand flare-bombs to allow the Ka-50 Black Shark to fight at night. Find the bunker and the enemy unit and destroy them.

 

Night Moves

 

The Ka-50 normally cannot shoot at night. But with coordination from an allied unit mortaring flare-bombs, it can be done.

Mission:

 

Our Russian forces in Perveli Ohurey are dis-organized. The Georgian enemy is going to set-up areas for a start line at Achigwara North.

Your Ka-50 wing is the only asset we have to disrupt an enemy advance northwards.

 

- Destroy the Bunker at the North (Waypoint 2)

- Destroy enemy vehicles. Check the three set-up areas shown on the briefing map.

 

Night time mission.

We have a scout unit at Observation Post 23 (OP23) that will be shooting flares to light the area

There are two areas that are callable - NORTH and WEST

They are call-on-demand using the Radio Comms menu. Each flare-bomb lasts 5 minutes.

 

Read the Technical Notes in the briefing for reminders on night-flying

There are 2 mission versions Ramp(cold) Start and Runway Start

Quick summary.

A single player mission set in the 1950's. Fly lead in a flight of four F86 Sabres. Provide Close Air Support for a flight of helicopter armed transports (Hueys). They will execute a landing behind enemy lines, to infill a platoon of Marines tasked to destroy a radio station and TV tower. After the marine force completes the mission, they are extracted by the force of Hueys. RTB to succeed!

Quick summary: 'Hunting the Medina Division' is a co-op (4x Ka-50) mission on the Persian Gulf map.

Loosely based on the 'Battle of Medina Ridge' in the 91 Gulf War, this mission can be played SP.

 

 

Engage hostile ground forces in a deep attack/killbox interdiction style mission.

 

SITUATION:

Coalition ground forces are advancing on the city of Jiroft.

 

BLUE armored units will push north from a staging area, their objective is to reach two overwatch positions just south of Jiroft city by bypassing the small town of Mohammadabad.

 

Two Combined Arms Battalions composing of M1A1 Abrams and M2 Bradleys will maneuver east and west of Mohammadabad to reach Objective Hasan and Halil.

 

Elements of a REDFOR armored/mechanised division are defending the objective. Their strength and disposition is unknown. REDFOR is equipped with T72 and T55 main battle tanks along with BMP2 and other IFV/APCs.

 

Mission Notes:

- This mission should take roughly 1.7 hours to complete.

- Recommended as a coop but can be played as SP.

- This mission uses the 'Autonomous Ground Force Tasking' script by 'gromit190'.

- The ground force battle will be unique and each mission start.

- Hostile air defenses are randomized at each mission launch for additional replayability.

- KNOWN ISSUE: Sometimes ground vehicles will get stuck in buildings, this is a limitation of the DCS engine but shouldn't affect mission outcome.

A Dynamic Helicopter Landing Trainer (with limited MP support).
"CFrag's Lawnmower" is a mission where you train, improve, and test your helicopter landing skills. Request a landing by difficulty (easy, normal, or hard), and the mission generates an LZ based on your request. LZs are generated dynamically, from tens of thousands of possibilities, virtually guaranteeing that no two missions are identical (unless you are unusually patient). Landings are rated individually, and after five or more consecutive landings, your overall skill is rated as well. Harshly. So better step up your game, soldier!

 

Currently the mission supports all DCS flyable helicopters (Huey, Ka-50, Mi-8 and Gazelle), and you can switch between airframes - just don't do it while tasked with a landing, or you'll score a zero for cheating on that landing. MP Multi-Crew is tentatively included to support Instructor / Student, but may have some lingering bugs during scoring. MP Multi-Unit is currently unsupported.

 

CENTRAL, READY FOR DEPARTURE

You are Lawnmower One, training landings with Central. Landing zones are created dynamically based on the difficulty that you request 

Choose your Helicopter (all types supported), then use the 'F10 Other' Command in Communications to request a landing exercise from Central. Landings are scored individually, and you accumulate a total and average score. After 5 or more landings, you are rated based on your average score. After a landing you can change helicopters and continue.

Each Landing is scored based on

  • difficulty level (easy, normal, hard)
  • time required until touchdown
  • Quality (precision)
  • Helicopter type

 

LZ are marked by a ring of tires with a red flag sticking out (easy and normal mission), or a ring of red flags (hard). Additionally, the position of the LZ is marked by blue smoke that is positioned just outside the LZ.

A touchdown outside of the marked LZ fails that exercise touchdown with a score of 0 (as does a crash). Aborting an exercise counts as a failed landing (Score 0) towards your total and average score.

 

You can request three different exercises:

  • Easy: your landing zone will be mostly unobstructed and can be approached from any direction. It's big enough even for inexperienced pilots to hit, maybe even land in. There is a generous time limit, and breaking the limit will simply add less to the score.
  • Normal: your landing zone may be partially obstructed, so plan your approach direction. Landing Zone size is still generous. Time limit is shorter, breaking the limit also only results in a lower score
  • Hard: your landing zone is virtually guaranteed to be obstructed from at least one side, and usually there are obstacles (trees, buildings, vehicles, power lines) close by that may even extend into your LZ. Size of the LZ is what you would expect in real-life extraction missions. Time limit is harsh, and breaking the limit will reduce the entire score to zero.

 

You must also avoid other units moving about, even if they intrude on your LZ. Landing on a road is therefore not advised.

  • Ka-50 (easiest)
  • UH-1
  • SA-324
  • Mi-8 (hardest)
  • (HIND: tbd)

INSTALLATION
To install, download and move "CFrags Lawnmower.miz" to
    C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\
or
    C:\Users\[your user name]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Missions\


TO START THE MISSION 
Start DCS, then click
    - Mission (Note: NOT Training)
    - My Missions tab (upper left)
    - CFrags Lawnmower


Mission Roadmap:
- Add Other Locations (requires location-aware mission generation, coming soon) 
- Better MP support
- More refined audio
- Add moving LZ
- Add more traffic/ dynamic LZ incursion for hard missions
