I am afraid some of the programming in the newest patch has caused most of these problems. I am experiencing the exact same problems, but never had a problem before the patch.

Right...

I never had a crash with the release version, only when setting up my joystick.

So the CTD's has been introduced with the patch.

Well, flown a good 10 or so missions now without any effects.dll crashes. Also it's much smoother...less pops and stutters. I'll give it 24 hours just to confirm it's fixed.

[EDIT]
Not fixed. This time I crashed inside the HAS while starting the engines.

Having similiar problem.

C2D 8500, 4Gb RAM, 8800 Ultra. Latest drivers 266.58, Windows 7 64-bit (separate fresh install, using other Windows installation for daily tasks) no additional software, just TrackIR, Foxy and Control Panel for Cougar, Teamspeak 3, Acrobat Reader, driver for printer.

Running 64-bit executable under Administrator account.
Settings - everything max except for HDR, TSSAA, Blur = off, Water and Shadows = low. Nvidia driver - all default except for Anisotropic Filtering = 16 (game doesn't have this setting, so I force it from driver).

I get crash report for effect.dll when start firing with GAU onto first group of targets (trucks) in Quick mission.

I cured this problem via setting video driver setting to default (e.g. refusing from sharper textures due to disabled anisotropic filtering). I have a stomach feeling that smth else (in addition to anisotropy) changes when restoring driver to original settings and that the problem is about Nvidia driver and in-game graphics of blasts or some trigger that executes upon fine hit etc.

I don't want to re-install DirectX, C++ libraries etc. cause this clean fresh Windows works perfect now with LO2 and Ka50 whereas I had hell of runtime errors on previous cluttered Windows.

After many hours of firing all kinds of stuff at different targets and trying to provoke CTDs, I can say that the BETA DRIVER 167.24 seems to have solved the CTDs that occured when missles/bombs hit targets. So I would recommend trying this driver for a test!

More crash logs. First two are interesting because I think they happened when my squad mate tried to join my MP game. He also crashed out with an effects.dll when we tried another mission. Note, drivers have been updated to the latest.

Not reliable as such..

Yesterday I dropped 6 bombs on a group of trucks - no crash.
Then I dropped 12 bombs on the same group of trucks - CRASH.

Maybe its the type or amount of smoke generated, since I see these lines in my crash file (just a wild guess):

0E01D7F1 0012F2E8 0001:0000C7F1 C:\Spil Finn\DCS A-10C\bin\Effects.dll ?drawSmoke@JSmokeMaterial@Effects@@QAEXAAUJSmokeCachedData@12@@Z()+311

0E01DB8B 1E734060 0001:0000CB8B C:\Spil Finn\DCS A-10C\bin\Effects.dll ?DrawGeometry@JSmokeMaterial@Effects@@UAEXPAVRenderObject@Graphics@@@Z()+FB

Maybe something regarding smoke has changed in the new patch.
