Any recent updates on this? Will the G-Pants be added back or will pilot tolerances be equalized across all A/C?

Pilot body posture isn't the same in all aircraft, so why should g-tolerance be the same?

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

They might make it more historically accurate for the 1944 version they are working on. But equalizing would be a terrible idea...

@Sith & Sobek

I don't see why this would be a terrible idea. A pilots G tolerance on any given day is subject to such a large range of human factors that any aircraft design decisions are only comparable when talking about a pilot experiencing the exact same human performance limitations.

This post indicates that the blood pressure delta in the brain for any G at an increased tilt (on the scale we're talking about for the Mustang/Kurfurst/Dora) provides negligible increased G tolerance: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2486622&postcount=49

The following from a NATO report discusses the increased G tolerance associated with elevated leg positioning, which talks of a result of either +0.4G or a negligible increase:

d47f605c2a81fbb68ec33e480b48ca9e.png

This table from the same report samples 1000 pilots resting G tolerances:

Follow up material from AIR FORCE PAMPHLET 11-419 / 17 OCTOBER 2014 / G AWARENESS FOR AIRCREW:

Concusion: When taking into account all of the above data from the NATO/USAF reports, it clear that they (and the data) consider the the physical characteristics and readiness of the pilot and his ability to mitigate human factors through nutrition/conditioning/rest etc of large importance. The histogram showing the range of resting G tolerances as well as the effect on G tolerance from human factors such as fatigue and sleep deprivation are far more significant on any given day for any given pilot than small gains to be made by seat position.

I believe that due to the possibility for large variances in G tolerance for any pilot (Luftwaffe or USAAF) on any day that the only reasonable solution is to give all pilots the same G tolerance. I would like to see the G-Pants for the Mustang return for historical accuracy and because there is a quantifiable increase in G tolerance and increased rapid onset protection.

Possibly you are right and G-suit will be returned for the Mustang.

Anything to report (let slip) on this?

The Technical Orders for the Mustang concerning G-suits are dated November and December 1944. Maybe some operational trials were done before that timepoint, but most certainly no widespread operational use. There was no way to aquire the necessary valves (eg M-2) and ducting via supply lines without a technical order and official part number.

You are correct with November. I chose "Summer '44" to provide balance between:

  • Operational testing of G-Suits with Fighter Groups in January 1944 (1)
  • The standardization of the Type G-3 suit in August 1944 (2)
  • 4,100 G-3 suits being delivered to the 8th/9th/12th AF in the second half of 1944 (2)
  • Production G-3 suits arriving in the 8th AF in October 1944 (2)
  • Being accepted as USAAF standard equipment, with one to be issued to each pilot from November 1944 (2)

In my mind the above is reason enough to re-introduce the G-suit to the P-51D in DCS.

I agree with you, it fits the German contemporaries. I was just thrown of by the fact you made it sound like it was standard equipment from summer 44 when 99% of all Mustangs could only be modified for it starting December 44.

We should wait and see if it becomes an option with the new 1944 version they are working on.

I'm a bit confused by this. I hope it will be an option, but if our current P-51D is a late war (as in later than the European model) Pacific model would they not already have the standard G suit by this time?

Hey Sith, is there a thread or a post with some more info on what we can expect from that version of the Mustang? Im primarily interested on whether it will be a separate module that we would need to purchase or a free addon to those who already own the Mustang?

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

I admit I'd rather have all "Euro" features optional, if possible. Need to keep Pacific-spec Mustang for upcoming LN's Iwo Jima map :D. Plus, all the glorious Tom Weiss' Pacific and CBI custom skins would look awkward on an "Euro" Pony.

We'll see how they're going to sort it out.

Yeah, I am a big fan of options as well, much like the wing type on the Spitfire, or MW50 contents on the 109 and 190.
