Level of difficulty

Recommended Posts

There are many helicopter pilots out there.

Some of them just beginners, others are already proficient pilots.

When creating that campaign, we had that in mind, but you have to be truthful to yourself as well.

DCS is a Game, but it's a highly sophisticated game and "S" stands for SIMULATOR.

As a beginner, this means not that you are not able to fly it, but you may learn a lot in that time. And we give you all the help possible to succeed.

For the average pilot, some mission may be challenging, and you need a second or third approach. You also may learn some new things, especially when it comes to decision making and choosing the right way to do things.

As a proficient pilot, you shud not have any problem at all. But there may be the one or the other lucky shot taking you down for sure.

It is a serious helicopter campaign, and you should have already some knowledge about the Huey and some practice and or the will to learn.

Otherwise, I do not recommend to buy this campaign.

It's a helicopter he doesn't want to fly!

But Helicopter pilots never give up! :pilotfly:

Always happy landings ;)

The campaign feels very realistic in terms of mission types and procedures used, so thank you for that!

Such realistic campaigns are very motivating because their missions force you to learn aspects of the DCS module (in this case, the Huey) you might not yet have mastered, which in turn makes a such campaign a great learning tool.

I hope you will continue to make these detailed campaigns down the line as well.

Thanks for your feedback.

Realy hope most of you may think that way.

You can master a difficult task even when it takes some time and effort, but a boring mission never gets better regardless of any pilot effort.

Absolutely Loving this Campaign, took me 4 attempts to finish mission 1 and I enjoyed every attempt. the level of detail and things that have been included make this both enjoyable and challenging, there are so many things happening around you that you can't take it all in, in just one attempt anyway, and mastering these missions really makes you a much better pilot. best dollars I have spent on DCS todate.

Love the first mission. However. I landed on the bridge ,, and was dead center. I was thrown off, like I landed on a hill ? Wish there was a way to start there again? Instead of at beginning , feel like I didn’t mess up .....

Many thanks for being honest

As I already sad at the beginning of this thread, the level of difficulty and balance is one of the hardest tasks when building a mission.

We decided to make this campaign a challenge, not going the line of the least resistance.

And we "promised" many of the upcoming issues are related to the pilot and not the mission itself.

Besides this unpredictable behavior of the campaign handler, there is actually only one real bug in mission 4 when the AI decides to go home. This is fixed and will be changed by ED in let's hope the next update.

So we really appreciate the honesty of all of you when solving a problem and, continuing or finishing a mission successfully, in sending feedback and pointing out what the problem was and what's the actual solution is.

Many many thanks for that absolute fair and great behavior :thumbup:

Some of you are already in mission 5-1 or 5-2.

Listen to your commanding officer!

There is always an "obvious" way to finish the tasks without catching lot's of fire and major damage. But in cut and thrust, you may miss that at the first attempt.:smilewink:

  • 2 weeks later...

I finished the camapign before some days, of course with changig logbook 2-4 times to come on.

There is a lot of help inside, special from Co-Pilot Peter for Huey beginners. Absent 3 missions i can tell the same as rge75, is ok but sometimes a little to heavy long. Special when you in some stress missions in night and you thought at an RTB, next orders comes. Sometimes i could kill this Peter. But all together it makes this camapign to a new level of camapigns, and not only about difficults like the last missions. All together much fun, a lot of flyingtime and at last some heavy comepitions. Absolut nice for all they can handle this huey a must buy.

it's very atmospheric and a lot of fun. brilliant campaign but the main criticism I have is the enemy Ka-50s NEED to go. the level of difficulty would be perfect without having to avoid a gunship. don't be afraid of making the mission too easy, as the other objectives you have made are well thought out and challenging while still being fun. what's not fun is getting randomly deleted out of the sky by a vikhr

Do you talk about Mission 5-2?

We will take the KA-50 with the next update of the Mission out of that Mission. :smilewink:

Thanks for your comment

Ive played ALOT of flight campaigns over the past 25 years and this is probably the very best. Being a somewhat rookie helo pilot, it is very challenging yet very fun and immersive. I have attempted to finish mission one several times. However, despite my repeated attempts (and I get further each time I fly it) Im not bored. I love the formation flying and the atmosphere really makes the experience immersive. Also, since there are only 12 missions, the missions' difficulty for rookie helo pilots like me will mean it may take quite some time to finish the campaign which is great. Its like sipping a fine alcoholic beverage, you dont want to swallow it too fast, you want to savor it to make it last.

Manny many thank's for your feedback.:clap_2:

This is the kind of motivation needed from time to time, not only to keep the current project running and even more improvement but also for new upcoming ones. :worthy:

I hope you already know how to avoid the formation task in Mission 1? It's already discussed in several to mission 1 related threads :smilewink:

The level of difficulty is a very controversial point, because there are many players out there, looking for fast and easy success ignoring the "Simulation" in DCS and love to deceive themselves.

Anyway, for the new campaign, we work on we have all the feedback in mind, not only level of difficulty, but also mission length. But I can say right now we can't make substantial changes to that points without destroying the character and the inversion of the missions and that's our main reason to build a campaign in the first place.

Ther are many other things we can improve for sure, but we hope there are more pilots out there like you, excepting the challenge and dealing with it in a favorable way.

"Avoid the formation task in Mission 1?" Are you kidding? I love it! I don't want to avoid it! LOL

Can you give us a hint of the new campaign you are working on? Helicopter? Fixed wing? What?

It is the second part of the actual campaign, placed in Sommer 2025, and continues the actual story in a more escalating situation. :smilewink:

We also plan on a Gazelle Campaign as well, but the use of the Gazelle gives us a few Headaches when it comes to the building of inversive missions due to 2 Pilot crew and the workload in the cockpit.

Always happy landings ;)

 Again many thanks for your feedback.

Have thought about it and you are right the KA-50 makes it unnecessarily difficult.

The reason why it is in the mission at all has nothing to do with the difficulty level. The thought behind it was more than the Mi-8 would probably not fly without escort and thus more to my claim of realism.

"Weapons hold" was the fastest solution.

In the still-pending service update for this mission you will have the choice. You can then set the KA-50 to "return fire" at the beginning of the mission and choose the difficulty level yourself.

This will also give you more motivation to play the mission or campaign several times, which is one of my main goals.

Personally, I've played every mission countless times and still have fun with each one. Except maybe mission 1, I don't like water. :smilewink:

Always happy landings ;)
