DCS World 1.5/2.0/NTTR Map FAQ & Discussion

@sithspawn I just re-watched wag's September 6th Q&A video and he says the ED is in line for releasing 1.5 later this month. Then he goes on to say the ED is set to release anytime from mid September to late September. Now that it's mid September does that mean Anyday now there will be a update to openbeta?

Thanks,
Lt. Commander Jason "Punisher" M

You wont get any more specific than that, that said, lets leave the "when will it release" questions out of this thread, its coming, its coming soon, we just need to hold on a little longer.

Apart from sharing the engine, this company and their product has nothing to do with DCS World or NTTR.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Looking at the corresponding screenshot (in DCS World combat employment section, from your link), it looks pretty much like the old engine.

e.g. destroyable small buildings probably, but I won't expect anything magical about the dam.

Will this apply to unguided rockets such as S-5 and S-8?

Have you watched any of Wag's streams or vids? He fires unguided rockets all over the place in a few ;)

Anyways, I believe all effects will be redone to some extent over time, which make it in to Open Beta and which come later I dont know.

Some stuff will, some stuff wont. I dont think there is a list, realize that the focus of this map is the Training area. The dam wont be destructible that I know of, and you wont be able to flood anyone.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but will we be able to fly night missions in the F-15C? Will NVG be available for the Eagle?

For features refer to the 1st post, if that feature isnt listed, it probably isnt happening right now or we dont have an info.

This is a bit besides your question but:

The activation is in your registry. As long as it stays there, the open beta as well as any new version will be able to see it.

As to whether there will still be a version that can detect an activated version of BS1, we don't know either way, but as long as there is no information to the contrary, i would assume that it will still work.

if you have the upgrade version of BS2 it will work in 1.5 and 2.0 just as it does now with 1.2.16

I don't actually have DCS installed at the minute. I haven't flown in a year or two as I awaited a new map. I just remember that previously when a large update came up BS1 > BS2 upgrade was not supported during beta.

Maybe I should re-install my modules to get the activations/serials in the registry prior to 1.5/2 release. I must admit i'm a bit confused now!.. I had assumed 1.5 would be an entirely new version that would require a complete reinstall of DCS from scratch and not an upgrade. Hmmm.

(and yes i do know the new map is not coming with 1.5 but 2.0 later this year)

best way to go is have the public release version and the beta installed simultaneously.

Whatever you choose here is the link for both http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/

I have something of a concern regarding the new maps and campaigns...

When bringing out new campaigns in the future, are we likely to see the developers of those campaigns tend to keep them set in the Black Sea map? After all, when you sell a module with a campaign, the customer is likely going to expect to be able to play that campaign whether or not he/she owns some specific DLC-map.

Perhaps it won't be as obvious a problem with Nevada; however, in the future where there may be a reasonably large selection of maps to choose from, being required to own 'x' map just to play part of a module you paid full price for is going to seem harsh.

For what its worth, I don't say this as someone who is concerned about paying for new maps; I'm actually more concerned with the developers feeling forced into limiting themselves to the old map.

I think that's part of the reason ED is now allowing skilled mission makers to publish their missions and make money. That way there will be way more campaigns available to be spread along the different maps. But it's a valid concern given how soon there will be 5 different maps already (leatherneck's map that comes with F14, NTTR , Caucasus , Hormuz and Normandy)

But the opposite logic also applies. If the devs spend more time making campaigns for the new maps , people will be more inclined to buy said new maps.

All that content will be up to the developer. If they feel a campaign set in a map other than the Black Sea map, or maybe they created their own map, I am sure they will freely do so. Its possible you may buy a module with a campaign for a map you dont own yet. Its also possible we will start seeing bundles and such as we get more content. I wouldnt stress it too much.
