New monitor set up - Need opinion advice

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I need your advice. I actually play DCS with a 27" Full HD monitor but it was always my dream and plan playing DCS with a triple monitor set.

But now I am planning to buy one or two 34" widescreen monitor (with 3440x1440 resolution) or one or two 40" 4k monitor (X4071UHSU-B1 from Liyama) to play DCS in 4k resolution.

What do you think would be the better choice for DCS. Have to say I don't play many other games, so just DCS and maybe a car race or GTA.

My PC set up:

i7-6700K

16GB DDR4-RAM

Asus STRIX GTX 970 OC

Many thanks in advance.

You did not mention what video card you have. I purchased a Sony xbr 49x800D. For the price and specs, it is excellent for gaming. That's all I use it for. I also purchased the Oculus Rift. I have not taken it out of the box yet. Will use it for space type games. (Will have my other eye operated on in a week, first one did not go well.) Have not installed DCS yet on the new computer......waiting for 2.5....from what I read, it will be some time in 2017 and probably be an alpha release.

I have several other flight/space/car sims loaded to keep me gooinggggg.

By the way, my new Thrustmaster T-16000 hotas arrived yesterday night....on Sunday too. I did not get the pedals. So far I really like it......price was super and I like it much better than my $500.00 Thrustmaster Warthog pos.

I cannot conceive of what you would do with two of either monitor, unless in an over under config, which is of limited value. The frame split in the middle, if side by side, will be so distracting that it will ruin the immersion value of the wide view.

On of either, will be your best bet, and much easier on your rig.

Agree 100% with above. I could not put up with a screen split bezel right in the middle. It is either go one big 34" or a triple display. Or VR if you so choose.

Thanks for your advices.

Well for my shame I don't know which video card I have. I always thought the GPU is important for multiple monitor setup.

Why do you think one monitor is better than two? With two 40" monitor it is much more confortable for gaming because of the range or do I see it wrong? I apologize for my stupid questions but I never played with more than one monitor.

Running DCS in 3440x1440 on a single 34’’ display is demanding enough for GTX 1070. Two would require a heavy compromise on the DCS video quality settings - my bet would be somewhere between low-med.

After thinking the last few days and talking with people they already have 3 monitors I will play DCS with one screen.

However the question is now which monitor I should buy? A 40" 4K or a 34" widescreen? For the better feeling I personally prefer a widescreen but because of the big size a 40" screen would also be aweful. Hope you can help me with some advices

My personal choice would be 34'' 3440x1440 monitor.

From other characteristics: adaptive sync (GSYNC, FreeSync), 100Hz, IPS.

Moving from 24 to 34 widescreen the first impression is "wow it's hudge". After getting used to it's more like "it could be bigger, at least higher". Then, why not bigger than 34''? 40'' usually come in 4K or HD resolution. 4K for the moment is too demanding, even for the latest most powerful graphic cards like GTX 1080. HD resolution on the other hand is too low as sitting close (as it's a case with a monitor, but not a TV) to 40'' 1080p individual pixels will be visible.

I find 34" 2560x1440 is plenty for a top monitor (mostly canopy view) when combined with a bottom one (24" 1920x1200). It is also giving me an extra room at the very bottom for kneeboard, MFCD's etc. By the way, I have same gpu as yours, and getting 80-90 fps with a occasional drops to 50-60.

Hi Guys,

I have three matching Ilyama 24" monitors running 5760 x 1080 through a GTX1070.

Despite the limitations of DCS not having a true triple screen setting it still works pretty well.

I use the Nvidia surround and set DCS to 5760 x 1080 on single screen. I think I'd find it hard to go back to a single screen now, it's so much more immersive.

You have to have matching monitors though, it would be more trouble than it's worth with differing sizes.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, Asus 470ROG MB, 32GB Vengeance 3200 DDR4 RAM, GTX 1070 GPU, Samsung evo850 1TB SSD, HTC VIVE. Warthog, Trackir.:
