A couple of Warthog HOTAS questions.....

Firstly, how do I assign the slew control on the throttle to anything? If I load up the A10C, and go to the setup controls, it appears to be recognised as a joystick. However, if I then fire up the SU25T, I cannot get the slew control to show itself so I can assign it. I’ve tried it in the AXIS category too, but to no avail.

Secondly, the flaps switch..... What does the central position, MVR denote? The switch presses down, and appears to be a button of some sort, but I cannot get it to register any input in the setup.

Cheers :)

It's an axis (two axis actually: X,Y), so you should be able to assign it in the axis category.

MVR means maneuver, as that is the position for the maneuver flaps or takeoff flaps as they're also known. It doesn't register any input indeed, but some aircraft in DCS (like the A-10C) allow you to map it that way, that if neither of the two other positions is pressed, the middile position is assumed to be pressed.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

For the Su25T you map the "Schkval" to the X/Y axes on the throttle under the Axis tab in the control setup.

You will likely need a user curve as the control input can be wonky (imprecise) with the stock Warthog. Here is a thread about setting up the Su25T, but the same applies to applying a custom user curve to any module. Some modules work better than others. So start with defualt and then tune until you can get it to where it works for you..

A common upgrade is to drop in a new slew stick produced by another DCS player. I did this to my WH a while back and it is exponentially better for all games (especially DCS).

Also not every button position has a button output. Many of the buttons on the WH Throttle have positions that do not send a key press. The LUA files for some modules allow for this, but not all. You can modify the game input files (complicated if you have never done it before), or you can use helper software (TARGET or 3rd party like Joystick Gremlin, Joytokey etc) to create button outputs for these blank positions. An example of this is in the thread below.

Thanks both. That is very helpful. I shall have another look at the slew control. So far, I haven’t been able to get it to register any input, apart from when I fire up the A10C. I’m trying to do things directly from the DCS setup menu, as I don’t really have the skill set for TARGET, let alone modifying input files. Much appreciated :)

If the game doesn't automatically detect your axis input, try to open drop down menu and manually select the axis.

About the Warthog throttle flap switch. Please see this post where I show how to map the middle position thanks to Joystick Gremlin. You'll have to do that for many toggle switch on the Warthog throttle, not only the flap one.

Thanks Antoine. I managed to get the axis recognised, so that was good. Although it is almost useless as a slew control. Played around with the axis, and curve settings, and made it a little better, but still not great.

I had a quick peep at your Joystick Gremlin thread, but that is a bit too deep for me. Maybe at a later date. I’ve got so much information coming at me with this sim, that my brain is already having a meltdown, lol.

Stock slew is crap (as in "real crap"), this is an alternative, works great: https://deltasimelectronics.com/

Worth noting Aurellius on the Sim hardware thread considers the warthog with the Deltasim upgrade the best throttle on the market. Still waiting on my upgrade to come but hoping this month
