Update - November 06th

Mission file updated with 2 fixes:

 

-Combat zone border warning sound now works properly.

 

-F5 padlock view is now completely disabled as supposed to be.

Gentlemen, for 2v2 when registering more than two players, please specify number of teams and who team up with who so I can do the seeding and later on populate the brackets properly.

 

One squadron can field multiple teams but each player must stick to the same team throughout the competition. A player can be substituted by another player but only before the first fight occurs and the sub must not be part of another team in 2v2.

 

Also note that brackets will be populated so that teams and pilots from the same squadron would face each other in the latest possible stage of the competition.

Registration is now closed as we reached the maximum number of participants (32 pilots for 1v1 and 16 teams for 2v2)

 

Thanks to all who registered to this event. Official brackets, schedule, order of play and match protocol will be published soon.

 

If you're late to the party, we advise you to still register as a substitute, maybe an opportunity will present itself (No show/ expanding brackets...etc). Substitution will be handled on first come first served basis.

In DCS Open Beta 1.5.1 (1.5.1.46722.87) the mission file http://sa-sim.com/download/top-gun-r2-mission-file/ causes by DCS client to CTD after just few seconds from unpausing simulation by pressing FLY on briefing screen. So far my squad mates are also experiencing either crash or hang.

In DCS Open Beta 1.5.1 (1.5.1.46722.87) the mission file http://sa-sim.com/download/top-gun-r2-mission-file/ causes by DCS client to CTD after just few seconds from unpausing simulation by pressing FLY on briefing screen. So far my squad mates are also experiencing either crash or hang.

 

Thanks for reporting this mate, the version available for download was made in the previous built so I will check with Stuge for an update from the recent version.

I just tested the mission quite a lot again, and had no crashing problems.

 

Under what circumstances does the CTD occur? The mission automatically attempts to restart itself if there is an uneven or zero amount of players spawned in upon unpausing.

 

This automatic restart may lead to a crash to desktop if:

a) it was flown in single player mode

b) mission has been renamed, since the restart trigger uses the mission name.

please note that placing the players/teams that are SA ranked on the brackets is based on the standard seeding method.

Players/teams that do not have an SA ranking have been placed randomly or to avoid facing a squadron member in the early rounds.

Single Elimination for both 1v1 and 2v2!

Some comments to your choice of terrain in the official mission file:

 

- foremost it is very ugly choice on the edge of our only map, generic and with artifacts due to "universe ends here", what is not good for game & event after promotion (screenshots/videos);

- provides close to no visual references and angles regarding direction and altitude (I would rather choose to fly over water then generic ground pattern outside the map zone).

 

I may guess this is FPS related decision; however there are so many other places with very good FPS, like everywhere near Kerch Strait just for example.

Thank you for organizing such event!

Some comments to your choice of terrain in the official mission file:

 

- foremost it is very ugly choice on the edge of our only map, generic and with artifacts due to "universe ends here", what is not good for game & event after promotion (screenshots/videos);

- provides close to no visual references and angles regarding direction and altitude (I would rather choose to fly over water then generic ground pattern outside the map zone).

 

I may guess this is FPS related decision; however there are so many other places with very good FPS, like everywhere near Kerch Strait just for example.

 

Performance is obviously the first priority in an event like this, also we wanted the terrain to be as flat as possible but not over water. It's not very eye candy but it will do the job well IMO :) maybe Stuge will have a word on this.
