Is there anything new to report regarding the Me-262?

It is one of the modules I'm most looking forward to...

Modules: Bf 109, C-101, CE-II, F-5, Gazelle, Huey, Ka-50, Mi-8, MiG-15, MiG-19, MiG-21, Albatros, Viggen, Mirage 2000, Hornet, Yak-52, FC3

Coming next year, we have new AI air units like the P-47D, Ju-88, Fw 190 A-8, A-20G, C-47, Bf 109 G, Mosquito, C-47 and others taking to the skies of DCS World War II. Of these, we are already at work making the P-47D, Fw 190 A-8 and Mosquito flyable. In parallel, the new damage model system is now being applied to all our warbirds.

What happened to the 262?

NineLine,

for the WWII abckers (a long story..) do you think there cld be an opportunity to add the A8 and Mosquito to the possible rewards (so we don't have to wait for the 262 which does not seem on the priority list)?

Thanks

(and keep up your great job as community manager)

No, I highly doubt you will see anything change or be added to the rewards. It wouldn't be fair to anyone that has already claimed rewards, and we just don't need any more drama or stress over the whole Kickstarter thing.

It's still coming, but maybe later than above, they have collected a number of documents on it, so I think most of the research for it is done.

Thanks NineLine! Any ideas about a possibile / rough ETA yet? I know that everything is subject to change ;) but it would be nice to know whether it's approx. 1 year, 2 years or 5 years...

So around 25 pounds per G is the stick force needed. Interesting info as we will see people claiming like in 109 it's too hard to pull G's and probably I guess the reason why it's like that is the very same as in 109, movable stabilizer trim configuration but they won't attend to charts, they know better .

Good news! Thanks for the update. Been flying 1C, ED, and others for years. Also original Kickstarter here, but good things take time. Appreciate the update, have plenty of aircraft to fly in the meantime!

I would like to know that is if Yo-Yo or another expert has time to answer :

Does the swept wing improve top speed or acceleration performace in any way for the me262?

I keep hearing the sweep was used just to improve center of gravity on this plane.

I am not the expert you are asking for, but as I understood it, the 262 wings arent really traditionally swept wings, only swept for what you mention, to improve COG and how the aircraft handled those engines on its wings.

Nice little blurb here on it. https://www.dlr.de/en/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-5103/8592_read-21499/

262 had this type of a wing as one of the possible variant, and, if I remember right, initially there was a variant with non-swept wing. Germans did know much more about transsonic effects and kept researchng on swept wing because this type of a wing is not the best for subsonic flight, first of all due to lower aspect ratio, but allows to lower stability issues at high subsonic and transsonic speeds.

Just a quick pop in, to check on things, if any news. Obviously not, with so much going on, but wanted to jot an entry.

It will be very cool to have the 262. Will be interesting how it matches up vs the allied aircraft. I'm guessing it will be an aircraft that sweeps in to strike and then extends away to repeat.

that will be aircraft which become one big flame torch after got shot in the engine :P

btw spit IX was first allied plane which shot down me262 i think

Throttle regulator

Question for Dev's, or NineLine - if feasible at this time.

Not sure which version of 262 we are getting, but will it include the throttle regulator that was added late war to reduce stalls and flame outs (though not completely), or will the model be of the variety that meant you really had to handle the throttles with kid gloves, and light touch?

Thanks!

That might be Me-262 Werk-Nr 170093 of 3./KG 51. It got into a dogfight with Spitfire Mk.IX from RCAF No.401 Sqn on 05-Oct-1944. During the fight, shots were fired by both sides. It is not clear whether a Spit.IX landed a hit or whether there was a spontaneous engine fire on the Me-262 due to the exertion of the combat or some mechanical failure. There was no gun-camera footage of hits being scored. Still, either way, the Me 262 burned and crashed... and Spit.IXs were involved.

This was the third combat loss overall. The first was 28-Aug-1944 when an Me-262 was "manoeuvre-killed" (actually the pilot survived) by P-47s of 78th Fighter Group and the second was 02-Oct-1944 when P-47s of 356th Fighter Group chased an Me-262 until it ran out of fuel, and was forced to ditch, destroying the aircraft. The Me-262s were from 1./KG51.

I am unable to find any information on the first confirmed kill (gun cam or independent witness report) of an Me-262 by gun fire.

You guess correctly. The engines have extremely long spool up times, and it doesn't do well in initial acceleration at lower speeds. You bleed off too much speed and you won't be able to get it back. You get them up to about 600kmh and make sure you never go below that point, more or less.

Multiplayer missions with a stream of AI B-17s could be fun. ME262's / A-8s with an objective of knocking down X number of bombers, and P-51s running high cover trying to keep that from happening. Use air starts for both to keep the mission lively.

Hmm...

air start but not static air start spawn area should follow bomber group.

static air start wont give much or you would have to restart mission every 15 minutes :P

b-17's can travel quite a distance in 15-30 mins. or order b-17 group to circle in one point but that would be so boorring
