I'm talking about multiplayer experience with no AIs.

IMHO ... How much the coolant rads is closed determines the success and it has to be closed to verge of cooking your engine, also, it's important the moment when you decide to fly away, if it's too late you have to fight. My judgment says: if the German plane is getting the advantage, my altitude is 7000 feet and my speed is about to 250 mph, it's time to fly away.

But that is my experience.

It realy doesnt matter becouse fw190 can close coolant flaps too making it a bit more faster too.
And manualy closing coolant flaps is not good, you can kill you engine by mistake and this is not good. I higly doubt that any pilot in ww2 used manual flaps when auto was avilable.

Yep ... but it can't do it much longer than P51 can do ... distance is important and p51 accelerates faster in a dive ... and once you are farther away than 800 meters you are only seeing the tracers behind you. On BS I fly safe from Anapa to Novo

both planes clean, same amount of fuel.
He was cruising @2700RPM 46Hg 350knot he had radiators in auto and almost closed.
i was doing 3000RPM 60Hg with radiators full open. i could not get faster than 320Knot. that thing has an insane amount of drag.

If you open them fully manualy yes it has drag.
But 350kts is dive speed for p-51, it just cant reach this speed in level flight (p-51 can fly faster then 350kts but at alt above 26k not at 1000ft)
It will be hard or almost impossible for p-51 to get 320kts at 1000ft anyway
