I have a fascination for military aircraft from WW2 onwards, so anything post '39.

WW2. Nothing beats it for me. Because the air combat varies so much. From quick and abrupt B&Z attacks, through hectic turn fighting and big furballs where planes jump from one to another switching targets, trying to get shots quickly and evade incoming shots.

It also has the most beautiful AAA :) With Flak 88 and it's black puffs of death and light flak (Bofors/Flak 38) with their tracer ammo illuminating night skies full of bombers dropping massive loads of incendiary bombs.

So many different aircarft that make it way more interesting every mission.

Besides the planes that we will have... I'd like to see other theaters and planes that fit in:

Europe 44

Fw190A8

P-38J

Hs129

Bf109G14

Tempest

Pacific1942-1943(so times where the fight was competetive):

A6M3(model 22)

Ki43-IIb

F4U-1a

F6F3

SBD Dauntless

D3A

MTO 42-43:

Bf109G2

P-40F

Spitfire Mk Vc

Ju87

B-25

Those are just planes that I would like to see the most... but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see more :D

But this would require to change way of buying modules to something more compact. Like packages eg. 'Pacific 1942-43 theatre pack' etc.

Cold War era. Wouldn't got as far as early 90's. More like 60's to early 80's to me.

I like the high speed and maneuverability, but without the higher precision and better accuracy and range of sensors used in modern aircraft.

I like World War II planes as well, there's so much history attached to them. It was that time the last when we saw the most powerful AF's in the wold going against each other. And hopefully but not likely, the last time.

As modern, as possible, as long as it still has a pilot!

There is so much WWII out there already (IL-2 series, CloD, BoS) WWI covered by Rise of flight... now DCS World seems the only alternative taking on the post WWII era.

I like the prop planes for what they are, I love Helicopters (no other Sim has a Huey like the DCS one!).

I love versatile modern planes, that can take different roles from CAP to ground strikes or CAS... There is room for a lot of stuff, but if I could set priorities it would be for a decent Iran/Iraq and Afghanistan map(s) with multirole jets from the late 70ies to the 21st century to get along. F-18, F-16, Mirages, F-4E, Tornado, Harrier, etc. And of course some helis from the same era. Apache, OH-58D etc.

For me, 1970's to present is what I'm most interested in for DCS. As others have said, RoF covers WW1 nicely and WW2 has been done to death. Even if you still hunger for more WW2, you have several options, all of them with better spotting, flight and damage modeling than DCS.

I love all periods of military aviation. So I'm really itching for things I've never seen before, like a high fidelity MiG-23/25/29, F-4 and F-5. And that's ignoring those we already have or are confirmed as being in progress.

HAWX has cool "markers" and arrows to help find the planes... Not that it is that difficult in a cubic mile killbox.

Wait, actually DCS has them as well. Arcade mode? ;)

Ok guys, this is DCS World, so lets stick to DCS World. List what you are most interested in and try not to slam what others are interested in within DCS.

I tried to be one of those guys that only liked certain eras, I mean before the F-86 and now the MiG 15 I was completely un-interested in the Korean eras... but damn, DCS sucked me in... I have to just keep an open mind and find the time to try anything and everything if someone ones to put in the effort to make it...

It is an Interesting metric that poll responders favor the Modern Era (Post-Vietnam period) 2 to 1.

Even more interesting that poll respondents favor jets over props by a 4 to 1 ratio.

Despite the apparent overwhelming interest of the polling customer base, development continues on legacy aircraft and terrain. IMHO, there must be some other hidden factor guiding product development for DCS. Nevada/NTTR and the DCS F-18 can't come soon enough for me.

I don't need no stinkin' GPS! (except for PGMs :D) :pilotfly:

Can you explain why that's such a face palm.

He speaks truth, even if bluntly so. You can not see aircraft at range anywhere as easily as you should be able. The damage model/AI stuff is just silly sometimes. I was fighting an F-86F with a MiG-15Bis and he was streaming fuel from both wings, and flaps were blown clean off both wings.

He was zooming around like everything was cool, nonetheless. I ran out of ammo trying to chase him down and put him out of his misery. While flying back to base without any other recourse I F2'd just in time to see him falling backwards out of the sky and slam into the ground (about 5 minutes later... what???), still in the cockpit. I also don't like seeing the vertical stabilizer blown clean off an Su-25 and watching it flying back to base like it's minor damage, when we can know from first hand experience that there is no way for us to prevent the plane from fish-tailing until we lose control and go into a spin.

It just wasn't such a big deal when we had all modern because the cannons and missiles tend to do far more damage to their era counterparts. In contrast older era planes hold up like tanks against each others MG and cannons. Combined with the AI's inability to be daunted by damage it's rather annoying.

You can't dispute that the systems and flight modeling are far superior in DCS than anywhere else (though I'll debate ground handling due to the lack of friction the ground seems to have; very skating rink) but you have to take almost everything else about WWII flying with a huge grain of salt.

What I _know_ is that a lot of this is already better than it was. And I am sure in time it will be even better. But it still kills it for many people at this time.

To answer the actual question: I have almost zero interest in WWI. Anything WWII and up is great.

Better spotting and DMs maybe, but flight modelling? Nonsense.

As for the eras however, anything between 1940s and 1980s is fine by me. And since I'm a groundpounder first and foremost, just gimme a Pony for Korea, a Huey for Vietnam, a Havoc for WW2 and a Hind for Afganistan - and I'm a happy man!

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Can you explain why that's such a face palm.

WWII, Korea and such are very much in their infancy in DCS, yes certain short comings are highlighted with the different style combat, but in many respects DCS is leaps and bounds ahead of other WWII flight sims. But mostly the face palm is for someone that cant just point out what they enjoy or are interested in (the thread is asking what era they are interested in, not what era(s) they are not interested in and why), and instead needs to dump on what they aren't interested in. The tired old argument of there being other WWII sims or WWII has been done to death, most of those people havent spent any time in DCS's WWII offerings to realize we are seeing the birth of the next generation of WWII FM and simulation...

Anyways this is probably all too far off topic...

Mmm, you seem to be missing a Vietnam bird in there. You should add DCS: A-1 Skyraider or DCS: A-6 Intruder to your wish list. I hope the latter is added soon-ish. Iconic bird that saw tons of combat. Also has SEAD ability. :)

As for flight modeling, I once saw someone on the forums here describe it perfectly. Can't remember who or the exact quote, but the basic idea was: in DCS WW2 props want to be jets and in BoS WW2 props want to be biplanes.
