OttoPus
Not easy to describe, but I'll try: flyin with certain angle and distance to some trees agglomerates, produces great loss of fps (near 50%). In example: Near trees in view, FPS 30-ish Now the same exact location, but the view to distant trees, 60fps Another Example: Distant trees, smooth Now the same trees, but nearer, stutterfest: Could it be related to the calculations needed for the trees shadows? Or maybe to tree shadows LODs?

OttoPus
You could try Mustangs no tree shadows fix for 1.5. Compare tree shadows with no tree shadows. Thanks, I'll search and try that mod, and report back. But I think the issue remains here: the level of detail I see from near field trees is not so greater than distant trees, I wonder why such performance hit. OttoPus
Update: tried with flat shadows on, but trees still made fps go insanely down. So I installed the mustang mod to remove tree shadows. The problem is gone.

kripzoo
Same here. Shadows generally eat lots of fps in different games..
OttoPus
I tried the no tree shadows mod, but trees are eating a lot of resources still. So I've given up and set trees to 5000, so now I feel flying on a desert but fps are decent. There is still the bug of pre rendered shadows even if trees are not visible:
majapahit
My first install of DCS 1.5 gave high lit screen. But didnt know to realise, everything seemed to work. For other reasons I uninstalled 1.5 by update and reinstalled. Screen now 'normal' as previous 1.2.16. So bad install is possible of textures or something without any hint. | VR goggles | Autopilot panel | Headtracker | TM HOTAS | G920 HOTAS | MS FFB 2 | Throttle Quadrants | 8600K | GTX 1080 | 64GB RAM| Win 10 x64 | Voicerecognition | 50" UHD TV monitor | 40" 1080p TV monitor | 2x 24" 1080p side monitors | 24" 1080p touchscreen |

Nedum
I am not seeing this myself, Please add your system specification and a track, Thanks This may have something to do with the in game time. As far as I have noticed if the shadows become longer the more we get FPS hits. If you play the D-9 intercept quick mission, you will notice a big FPS hit if you fly low (1000 meters) over the big forest near kabouichi. It gives me a hit of 75+FPS. Lowest FPS was 07 FPS. amazingme
I have the exactly same fps "issue" with trees shadows and I can confirm that the loss in fps is higher or lower depending on the time of the day the mission is set to. I've tried setting the time to 8:30:00AM vs 12:30:00PM and I clearly noticed that fps increases when looking down at trees. So we probably need better rigs :) Specs: Asus Z97 PRO Gamer, i7 4790K@4.6GHz, 4x8GB Kingston @2400MHz 11-13-14-32, Titan X, Creative X-Fi, 128+2x250GB SSDs, VPC T50 Throttle + G940, MFG Crosswinds, TrackIR 5 w/ pro clip, JetSeat, Win10 Pro 64-bit, Oculus Rift, 27"@1920x1080 Settings:2.1.x - Textures:High Terrain:High Civ.Traffic:Off Water:High VisRan:Low Heatblur:High Shadows:High Res:1920x1080 RoC:1024 MSAA:4x AF:16x HDR:OFF DefS: ON GCI: ON DoF:Off Lens: OFF C/G:390m Trees:1500m R:max Gamma: 1.

ED Team BIGNEWY Posted October 12, 2015 ED Team Share Posted October 12, 2015 Ive watched the track back, I am getting 80 - 120 fps with no stutter, flat shadows on and off. Different people will get different results due to having different machines, some people have been posting there system specs in there logs which is great, I am just wondering if there is some common specification linked to people having issues. OttoPus
You have a very hi-end machine and used lower settings, so not really a fair test comparison. But there is an important result though: with only 2 airplanes in the map, with no weather fx, no AI, no other units to take track of, you are oscillating through 80 and 120 fps. This means a 33% variation, which is A LOT in an empty mission. It's weird.

What do you get when you take a free camera F11 with no aircraft's or objects on the map? I am getting 100 - 130 fps Edited October 12, 2015 by BIGNEWY Forum rules - DCS Crashing? OttoPus
I tried the same mission of the track but without any unit in the map. The settings: Distant Trees + Clouds + and other stuff (counter shows 50 but it was increasing, it was really a stable 60) Near Trees: Thanks for taking the time to explore the possible issue, very appreciated

But the trees aren't forming any shadows in that screen? Try same with different time of the day. Like 9am, so the trees are forming a long shadows. Thats when the heavy fps loss starts, at least in my machine.:music_whistling:

MAD-MM
Have the same issue. I restart the MI-8 Campaign again to test out the engine. It's sometimes more and sometimes less, the biggest issue for me was the Wood before Buran Training range, frames starting to heavy stuttering, as I fly pass low. My specs are : I7 3770K 3,5 GH 8 GB Ram and GTX 670 Once you have tasted Flight, you will forever walk the Earth with your Eyes turned Skyward.
