[REPORTED]High Memory Consumption

DCS 1.5 seems to be very memory hungry. My server is currently using 18GB RAM after about 2.5 hours and is still increasing! :shocking:

Since this is a server, the game is only sitting in the spectator menu and is doing nothing else.

ive noticed high vram usage too im using over 4.5 in multiplayer which is no big deal for a 8gb vram card but others might run into problems

That means your VRAM is used as a Cache as well, the more the better.

Yeah, causes the sim to crash for me. Seemed to start after the most recent update. No problem prior to that.

we are talking about two different RAMs here, VRAM and system ram.

Apperently, the leak is in the Ssstem RAM and is not related to the VRAM climbing up&up the longer you play.

Thing is, it WON'T stop when it has filled your physical VRAM ! It climbs beyond VRAM, most likely shuffling that part of the memory over to system ram, if that is good or not, I dont know, I still had same marvellous FPS when my VRAM usage showed 5.12GB...and I only have a 980GTX with 4GB, where were those 1.12GB ???

Got pics with MSI AFterburner in place that show how it slowly climbs and climbs ( I dont know if this is intented, good or bad )

regarding System RAM; yes, if it runs long enough it forces my system to occupy 8GB+ swapfile ( which should be disabled actually, but Win enables it again, no matter what you say or wish !), but DCS usually stays at around 3.8GB System RAM usage. I have no clue why there is a 8GB swapfile need when DCS 1.5 usually hogs just roughly 4GB...before it crashes etc...

Right now, servers crash so often and offline too that it doesnt really hinder me now for testing, in the long run it's gotta be tuned and looked at I guess.

hope this helps

It happens to me also and I have just a gtx 970 :)... Seriously, running DCS with a single monitor (1900x1200) the 970 works wonder, I'm having 120 fps (playing the hip campaign) but yet again, I'm also capped at 120 because I don't feel more fps are needed.

But, I did notice that, upon mission start, VRAM usage is around 3.8 Gigs; on mission end tends to be higher than 5 gigs, and when that happen, fps go back to 60ish. Using mirrors seems to worsen this issue.

Also, I apologize in advance for going a little OT but, I'd like to add that the 970 is performing equally well when using 3 or 4 gigs of vram, which makes me believe that all the hype about the card going shambles when using more than 3.5 gigs, last year, really were some commercial bs.

It also may be true that systems with DDR4 RAM may perform significantly better that DDR3 ones, when the GPU has to start using system memory (RAM on video cards is DDR5).

eventually they 'll fix it. I must say that with 1.5 I'm having a blast just by fooling around with missionettes in the editor.

Also, single player campaigns seem to work, I had to restart the hip one because of lost content after update, but so far works fine
