My brother-in-law served for many years throughout the 70's and early 80's and his cruises were always on a carrier. He was never on the flight deck though but a couple dozen stories below in the machine shops. He told me most cruises they'd lose one or two of the flight deck crew to accident or just losing their bearings and falling off the boat...
