Default 2.1.1: weird freeze and hourglass when closing in on another aircraft

So, I've been getting great frame rates with 2.1.0, better than 2.0 in Nevada, and generally over 90 FPS in both Nevada and Normandy.

I have an i7-4790K OC'd to 4.7, 16 GB DDR3 RAM, 1080 Ti and running VR via Oculus Rift with a PD of 1.3 .

I've got everything generally turned down low with deferred lighting OFF.

With 2.1.1 that just came out, I have not noticed a drop in FPS per se, but I have noticed that as I close in on an AI FW-190 or Bf-109 in my Spit, in both Nevada and Normandy, the game freezes for a second, the hour glass comes on, and then just as suddenly everything resumes. Of course, by this time the bad guy is a ways away and I've lost my shot! Sometimes this happens the first time I close in on the other aircraft but not subsequently (though TBH I cannot remember if subsequently I ever closed in that close). Other times it happens a few times. No other aircraft in the sky, or indeed, any other objects in the game, apart from me and the other plane.

I recognize this is Alpha, and I am not so much complaining as reporting, to see if anyone else is experiencing this and whether or not I should file a bug report.
