Default Best way converting to DDS with GIMP

Hi all, I've made a few skins and want to start compressing them to DDS.
What is the best way ( converting settings etc ) with GIMP to do it to maintain best quality?

Use DXTBmp or the GIMP plugin. However they're old and uses an outdated form of .DDS.

The best result though, pluck out the 9.99 a month and get photoshop, then download the .DDS plugin for Photoshop from Intel

Roughmets can be saved in the same DDS format as mentioned above, BC3/DXT5.

Normal Maps should be saved as in the bottom example in the link for best results.
