New caucasus map

What a question. Lol.

Multiple times we've had 1.5.x stable and OB getting patched up to the same sub-version number at the same time on the same day (and thus distributed from ED website for all newcomers), hence my question. I know it sounds crazy, but apparently (looking at FB posts as well), this particular fragment of Wags' statement made things even more confusing.

Raven's theory sounds very plausible, but a bit of a confirmation would be nice.

I can understand that. I assume Matt or Sith will come in and clean up any confusion.

Dear all,

DCS World 2.5 News Update

Work is going well with the updated Caucasus map and the summer map is ready to go! However, there is still work to do on the Spring, Autumn, and Winter maps. Much of this revolves around integration of the new SpeedTree tech. This is a rather time consuming process and is not just a case of just dropping in new tech.

Additionally, a lot of work continues on updating the hundreds of missions and campaigns that need to be adjusted for the map changes. This primarily entails moving units and their routes out of the many new forested areas on the map. We want this move to DCS World 2.5 to be as bug-free as possible.

Finally, we have the holiday season fast approaching, and we need to give our staff time with their loved ones.

Given this, we will be releasing DCS World 2.5 by late-January 2018. This is not an estimate, this is a promise.

In order to avoid confusion and any update issues, DCS World 2.5 will be released as a new download (NOT an update to an existing version). The current Open Beta will be updated to DCS World 2.5 Open Beta, the Open Alpha will be removed, and DCS World 1.5 will remain but be unsupported.

Modules will not need to be re-downloaded or activated.

Pilots statistics from DCS World 2.x will be carried over to DCS World 2.5.

Movement of DCS World 2.5 would then soon follow to Steam.

Thanks,

I just stumbled across this. Why is this burried in the forums and not under official updates or sent out as part of the newsletter? We have been waiting on 2.5 for a year now and I would imagine an announcement like this would be bigger news.

@Wags:

You say that modules will be "copied over" from 2.2. That seems strange to me. I'm sure that not everybody in the community has even istalled 2.2.

And personally, I don't have all "my" modules installed in 2.2.

It would seem more logical to me to import modules (except Nevada and Normandy maps) from the stable version 1.5 (which has just been updated to 1.5.8).

But in the end, if 2.2 is the source then I will have to make sure I have all my modules set up in 2.2.

We also need clarity on which version of "Saved Games" data will be used for 2.5. I'm currently maintaining these data for the 3 versions of DCS, and I need to know which one to focus on for maintenance quality.

The Updater is a pretty powerful tool, it will search for identical files that are already downloaded and will copy them where needed.

Ow, and by this I understand that DCS 2.5 will be released as a stable (non EA, Beta/Alpha) version from the get go (as Beta and Stable will be on the same version)

Just need a date so I can book the time off at work.

@Wags, do we need to De-Activate the PayDLC-Campaigns (which only works on the Caucasus Map) under 1.5.x before we can/should install DCS World 2.5.x?

It's linked to the pc not the game so it should be good.

That's one way to interpret it, but what about the "NOT an update to an existing version" phrase then?

Wags, I applaud your attempt to reduce confusion, but really, you couldn't have made a more confusing statement within two sentences :D.

Are we getting 2.5 stable and 2.5 OB on the release day?

What a question. Lol.

So 2.5 will never be a Stable Release? That doesn't make sense.
