Why is there no Takeoff/Landing tutorials?

Just got the MiG-29 and I am baffled by the total lack of instructional material. No takeoff training missions. No landing training missions. Zero info about takeoff or landing procedures in the manual. No info about landing gear/tire failure speeds. Nada.

 

Takeoff:

 

Flaps settings?

Rotation speed?

 

Landing:

 

Flaps settings?

Approach speed?

AoA?

 

Gear speeds?

They got rid of them in the merge from lock on to flaming cliffs. Here’s som videos from a real MiG-29 pilot https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=222228. Usually you get Su-27 training missions with FC3. I’m hoping it gets expanded for MAC

Takeoff:

 

Flaps settings?

Rotation speed?

 

Landing:

Takeoff:

Full Mil Power:

 

1) Normally flaps are set to full extension.

2) Request permission to take off.

3) Start the flight timer on the clock.

4) Brake on. Smoothly push throttle to full mil power.

5) With engines at full mil power, release brakes and begin the takeoff run.

6) During roll, keep stick at neutral position and use rudders to steer.

7) At a speed of 240-250 km/hr, smoothly pull the stick toward you to lift the nosewheel off the runway to a pitch of 10-11°.

8.) Main wheels leave the runway at a speed of 260-280 km/hr, depending on the take-off weight of the aircraft and the rate of front wheel lift.

9) Hold the pitch angle for the initial part of the climb.

 

 

With afterburner:

 

1) Same as above until brake release.

2) Upon brake release, engage afterburner.

3) At a speed of 150-160 km/hr, pull the stick toward you. At a speed of 180 km/hr, the nose wheel should lift off the runway.

4) At a speed of 230-250 km/hr, the mains should follow.

(This all happens very quickly with afterburner--so be ready for it.)

Since I seldom have time for long tutorials these days, I've been thinking that, perhaps, short 3-5 minute drills might help some folks anyway. Thoughts?

No info about landing gear/tire failure speeds.

No manual gives values on that as it depends on many factors like speed, temperature, total weight, aircraft attitude... Follow the procedures and you won't get into trouble. Means gentle rudder/nws inputs unless already slow, no hard and/or heavy landings and no prolonged take off runs (like 300kph and still touching @ 3 points).

 

 

Landing AoA should be around 10 - keeping the glideslope it will get you to the right speed and vertical velocity.

So 10 units AoA is on-speed?

 

The videos were immensely helpful. I'll rotate at about 210kph and come off some time before 300kph. I take landings like I do in the Fishbed: shallow and zero-out the vertical velocity during flare. Approaching 330kph or so, crossing the threshold at 300kph, touchdown at 280-ish? I'm not very consistent in my patterns though.

Sorry, I should've been more clear (but it's still correct statement). You don't fly russian birds like that - rather gradual slowing down to end up in 10-11 degrees AoA at TD.

Is there a difference in how the MIG29S and A handles on landing in DCS stable version and in Open Beta? I am finding it very hard to believe the way it performs during landing in Open Beta is approximately correct. I have another post on the bounce. So please in respect to the original poster here don't go off topic.

 

 

Question here is does the landing of the MIG29 perform the same in both stable and open beta versions? Does anybody know? Meaning will the recipe stated in replies here apply to both versions?

No difference that I've noticed. A track made in one version plays back correctly in the other version. That being said, I find that the -A lands more smoothly than the -S.
