Default vVMA-231 is looking for active, US based AV8 pilots

Hi all, I thought we used to have a dedicated squadron forum, but I can't seem to find it so I apologize if this post is misplaced.

vVMA-231 is an active, US based AV8 squadron that trains to real world tactics and standards. We are a part of JTF-1 which consists of several F18, F14, and F16 squadrons. We maintain a joint server to train on, and conduct joint missions every few weeks with human ATC, GCI, AWACS, JTACS, etc. Our current membership is mostly USMC veterans, one of which was an AV8 maintainer. We are a great group of guys, and have a ton of fun.

Now that the slow summer season is over, we are actively seeking new pilots. You don't have to be a pro, but you do have to be active. We will train you if you are willing to put in the time. Typical training/mission nights are Sunday and Tuesday, 1930 EST.

If this is something that interests you, please message me, or visit our website and drop an application.

Thanks for your interest, see you in DCS!

Bummer as being in Sydney, Australia means mid morning on work days Monday and Wednesday for me. I wish your online squadron the best.

I’m a member of a Tomcat squad in JTF-1 and I can promise VMA-231 don’t disappoint! Their capabilities and accomplishments as a unit are world class and they get it done, every time! Our missions and campaigns are incredibly immersive and place an emphasis on force cohesion. If you have the Harrier and don’t have a squadron to fly with, your decision has just been made! See you soon in the air with JTF-1.

I was an AV-8B maintainer for the west coast. Sounds interesting, but maybe I lack time.

Mission nights are every other Sunday. Most units fly every Sunday with practice on the non mission Sundays. Squadrons typically have one other night a week they practice. Its very welcoming and developing for new pilots.

One of our guys was a maintainer out in Yuma, we have 5 USMC vets in the squad currently. We aren't rigid about attendance, but we do ask that you attend regularly to stay current. There is no mandatory or minimum requirement. We would like to see one night a week, but we understand that real life does get in the way.

Sunday night we do some sort of mission or campaign, and Tuesdays are for training.

Here's a video of our campaign mission today, I got hammered by an SA15...

Joint Task Force 1. A combined group of Naval and AF squads that train together. We maintain a few servers, and train together as a group. This allows us to build and run campaigns that use multiple airframes. Last Sunday we had 51 guys working together in a single mission.

Great group of guys, like I said. Fly any airframe you want, you are just limited to your squad aircraft on training and mission nights. We have a couple of training servers, so you always have guys to fly with. I think it's almost as much a social club as it is a squadron. The people are what make it great.
