Nansaram
Hi, I use oculus VR and I'm trouble with too much gun smoke when trigger. Almost loose sight with that smoke. I want to reduce that gun smoke to track my target with my eye.
comie1
I agree it's way too overpowering. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] https://www.twitch.tv/comie1
beppe_goodoldrebel
Maybe it's something realistic...
comie1
That looks like it's venting to the sides more than anything. Also look how clear it appears in the middle, no issues with target visibility there I'd guess [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] https://www.twitch.tv/comie1
NeilWillis
It vents that way to stop it being ingested by the engines. If you look, when you fire the guns in the sim, you'll see two vanes pop up. That's what they do.

toutenglisse
I bet that you are not interested in a modification (that breaks IC for MP), but in an official update. In case you are you can modify smoke density/opacity by editing shell_table.lua file, changing for all F-5's M39 ammos the line : smoke_opacity = m39_smoke_opacity, by : smoke_opacity = 0.1, for exemple or try other number ? (original number for M39 is 0.3) EDIT : should be smarter to modify the lines : local m39_smoke_scale = 1.0; local m39_smoke_opacity = 0.3; changing the values by number of your choice (same scale and 0.1 for opacity ?). Thanks toutenglisse, I will try to edit shell_table.lua as you guide; "local m39_smoke_opacity = 0.3". But editing it will ban to connect mutiplay server right? or is it no problem? I hope to connect also.
toutenglisse
Yes editing will break IC for multiplayer.
Nansaram
I tested & found in VR, local m39_smoke_opacity = 0.05 is sutable for me. Now I can see the movement of my target when lead trigger. But can't connect multi. please DCS make it for official update to adjust smoke density or smoke direction. I don't think real F-5 gun smoke will interfere pilot view when shooting. Thanks again toutenglisse.

ED Team NineLine Posted July 31, 2018 ED Team Share Posted July 31, 2018 This is South Korea F-5 gun smoke shooting cam at 55sec. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F2ip7oWEKE We can see clearly when gun fired. Actually, the times of smoke the opacity is pretty close to what we have, the issue seems the times between the puffs, and most likely that ED's smoke is more uniform and 'perfect' where is real smoke has more inconsistencies when its released like this. Going to report and see if they can tweak it some, maybe change the puff timing, opacity, and maybe even the space between the gun smoke.
