4k monitor

Hi all. So I've taken the plunge into 4k. Just bought a acer predator 32 inch 4k monitor. I love it. However, my fps have dropped as expected to around 14 fps but the strange thing is, even after dropping all my settings to minimum, I'm still only getting 14 fps.

My previous settings were all high at 1920x1080.

Any ideas why with the reduced settings I'm not gaining any fps?

Its not too hard to work out

1920 x 1080 = 2073600

3840 x 2160 = 8294400

300% increase in what you are asking your system to render = less FPS

I'm using a 40" 4K monitor and typically get 40-50 fps with most of the settings on high.

Sounds like something is not right with your system, drivers, what ever.

With a 1080Ti, you shouldnt have huge problems running 4k res. Prior to VR, I was running triplescreen, so 3/4 of the 4k res, and when running that as a single viewport, I still had very high fps, and that was with a 1070.

That said, Ive seen a few reports in the VR section, from 1080ti users being stuck at 18-20fps. Sounds a bit like the 1080Ti and DCS, dont always walk hand in hand on some systems.

Knock-knock, that's exactly what I thought. I guess I need to play with settings and reduce my res. I was just taken back that I was getting the same fps at low settings that I was getting at high settings. It just doesn't make logical sense. My monitor was still refreshing at 60hz at low settings.

I'll check Nvidia drivers later but I'm sure they are up to date.

With my current setup, I figured I shouldn't have major problems with fps.

I've just realised my pc spec in my signature block hasn't been updated. I've got it as i7 4790k at 4ghz but I've currently got it overclocked @4.6ghz.

The test I've been running are on the up to date 2.1 on nttr. But I have 1.5 also but I've not run it yet.

There must be some problem in your nvidia settings application, make sure u dont have dsr enabled.

U have a really good graphics card and processor is good enough for DCS to handle it with no problem at 4k.

To be honest, I don't know if dsr is enabled off the top of my head. It certainly would.explain a few things. I'll check once I'm home.

Hi J3ST3R,

You have a good system, something must be out?

I'm only running a 1070 with a good overclock, try these setting below in DCS and NVIDIA control panel and let me know how it runs. You should be able turn a few more things up with your 1080ti.

DCS is will be getting more optimization as we move forward we hope;), at the moment, if you have Deferred Shading on turn off MSAA, Anisotropic filtering and bump up the settings in NVIDIA control panel.

The thread where I posted this below "Help with Graphics settings"

These are my settings for DCS 2.1 at the moment, DCS is going to be more optimized moving forward and I can turn these settings up more in different type of smaller missions, the settings and screenshot below are from the new Spitfire Campaign with quite a few AI and objects etc. I was trying to find a good balance here.

I only have the 1070, CPU overclocked at 4.9 when flying this mission. Frames are from 55 to 100 FPS. I also have Gsync which helps smooth things out. Try these settings for a start and tweak from there, it will change as ED makes updates.

Edit. This was at 2560 x 1440P screen res.

So I've followed all these settings in Nvidia CP and in dcs and now get around 20-30 fps. Any other ideas on what can be going on because this still doesn't seem right to me?

If I was you I would do the following:

1: Get DDU (displaydriveruninstaller) from Guru3d.com --> deinstall your current driver in Safe Mode, it's the recommended method, follow DDU's advices on this.

2: Get your proper *.inf file for your monitor ( CD or Acer website ) and install it

3: Get newest NV driver and install it

4: Delete or rename your C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\DCS folder(s); you should at least keep your input folder in C:\Users\larsk\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input

Make sure GSYNC is activated in NV-CPanel and that you have the correct value for refreshrate = Highest Available, Max Power in Energy Management and Gsync again at Monitor Technology.

;y screenshot is in german, but it may help ;)

Hope that helps, your fps is underearth like with 14fps

Hi Guys

I have a request: I am also planning to upgrade to a 32" 4K monitor but I am indecisive because of the size of the monitor. Could someone post some pictures or better a short video how does DCS look like on such a big monitor. That would be really great!

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers

Right, I think I have it sorted now. It was an issue with Nvidia CP. I had changed the global settings as suggested here and got a marginal improvement. The issue was the for some reason, the Nvidia cp settings on the dcs game tab where way different and I believe that's what was causing the pants performance. I'm now at about 45 fps in high settings in the nttr.

Now to upgrade my Ram to reduce the loading times lol

Thanks for all your help guys and gals

You will need an SSD drive for that, if you don't have one?

I even went one step further when building my rig and installed an M.2 NVMe drive;)

Unfortunately I have 2 ssd's installed in my build. A 128gb samsung evo for Windows and then a 512gb Samsung evo 860 pro just for dcs. Its just the loading times are not far short of 5 mins in 4k. They werent that bad in 1080p so I assumed faster ram would help?

wow that is really slow? with how DCS is at the moment it takes my rig anywhere from 30 to 40 seconds to load from a brand new loading boot, once loaded it's very quick to exit and relaunch, around 10 to 20 seconds. This is at 2560 x 1440P or Rift.

This doesn't sound right to me, even at 4K, and you are sure you now have DSR off right in the NVIDIA Control for DCS profile.

Perhaps someone else here can confirm it should take this long to load 4K.

I had my pc built at a local computer shop which has now gone bust. So I can't take it back to check everything was installed properly. I know the basics but not enough to find any fault. I've thought in the past that it wasn't very quick for an ssd. My friends dcs loads quicker off his hdd.

Yes, DSR is definitely disabled.
