Head Tracking

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I bought from ebay a PS3 eye camera adapted for headtracking and a 3led clip.

2 problems: one of the leds is not working at all, and the other two are turning off after 2 min, they stay like that for 30sec and then they turn on again (I can see that on the cam). Do you have any idee why is that?

The second issue: even when those two leds are working, in DCS the camera is fliped 90degrees and it doesn t move. Do I have to change some setting in game or is only the fact that the 3rd led is not working?

Thanks a lot!

This is what I bought!

I,d say the clips faulty as all three should be lit, and yes you should be able to set orientation within the software.

Personally i believe i/r tracking is quite dated and over complex, why not take the MPU9250/Hatire approach which is very accurate and not dependent on ir light strength.

At approx 10 euro to build its more bang for your buck

Make sure to use the 9250 as this as a magnetometer so no drift.

Clip is faulty, all three should light up, so you should contact the seller.

As for the other two turning off and on again that sounds like it *could* be USB power saving, can give problems with many usb devices, there's options in both the power settings and device manager for your USB hubs.

You would find where the device is plugged in and uncheck "turn off this device to save power"

As for the camera being "flipped" I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if you fired up DCS with your headtracking and a dodgy clip it's going to make you look around in weird and bizarre ways.

Get that clip sorted first, it might just be a loose connection you can fix yourself.

At any rate I wouldn't say it's "simpler" to build your own IMU if you're buying a headtracker off e-bay in the first place ;)

Whichever device you purchase the principle behind the software & curves is basically the same.

Both have their benefits and drawbacks, I found IMU headtracking to less accurate, more laggy and drifty no matter how much calibration.

Is there any 6DOF versions of this out there? AFAIK EDTracker and all the other stuff just support 3DOF, which is quiet dated. Did they make any progress?
