Normandy Map Discussion

Hi, dunno where else to post this but are there any plans to put accurate model of the bridge at Benouville in the map? Seems a rather big omission from a Normandy 1944 map.

 

At present (alpha I know) its very poorly represented by the generic metal rail bridge in the map (I hope a few variations on bridge will come in time too) which also results in the map having to contrive a narrowing of the canal. The rather well known immediate surroundings are also absent.

If you dont mind, PM me good reference photos and such, and I will feature request it. I dont mind asking for accurate landmarks where they can. I am not sure how bridges work, if they can have a unique one, but as I said, I dont mind asking.

I have to say it felt awesome flying in a formation of Spit IXs approaching the coast of France, seeing the sun glistening off my wing and the ocean below. Unfortunately when i got within sight of the coast my fps dropped to zero (yes zero). It finally came back about 30 secs or so later just in time for me to see the english channel filling my cockpit as my Spit crashed into the sea.

I am actually quite happily surprised at the performance of the Normandy map and 2.1 in general. Obviously I have deferred shading off to stop the flouro cockpits but I am seeing around 50-70 fps over Normandy down to 30-40 over large towns with "High" settings and shadows off.

 

I started another thread on the funny looking tree shadows.

 

I stupidly installed the Win 10 Creator update a week ago, I will roll that back today and see if frame rates get any better, as I noticed my NTTR rates were down on what I was used to in 2.0.5 before the update and now think that might have a lot to do with it based on what I'm reading about "Game mode" negative effect on frame rates.

Well after finally getting everything installed.... I like it. I really like it. Yes there are a few foibles and graphical issues and my FPS is only at 20 over towns and cities but who cares? The trees are full and rounded (and collidable. Oops), there are some birds (more needed please), the buildings look miles better, the whole thing - it just looks much more realistic.

I did what I set out to do and that was fly my Spit from France to England at dusk with a beer and I was very, very happy. I've yet to test the different settings so maybe I'll make it better still.

+ 100 - I agree, its also still in development and has lots to do and i look forward to the end result, good job DCS!

I know we are having problems with Normandy release and all, but I would like to comment some feature I didn't see anybody talk about.

 

 

Did anybody notice now aerodromes, even outside metal runways, can be used as grass runways and that can be felt in the aircraft handling?

 

I've noticed the Spitfire is easier to take off and land and seems more controllable when taxying.

Took the Viggen for a flip as it wasnt available in the prior release.

A number of issues with light reflections, overlays over switches if at certain angles to the sun.

Early days still with WIP however,

Worst for me is still the wind setting which affect all models.

Got a supersonic AJS 37 flying at 35 degree angles in a 25 kt wind close to the deck?

Umpf... Really need 2.0 and have to buy nevada map for 49$ that i can use

the normandy map i bought with my wwii backer allready !!??

 

damn in i dident read anything about it before when i buy allready also 9 modules since 2011...

 

nevada you become for free if you buy a10-c before 21.02.2011...

i bought my a10-c at 24.02.2011 !!! WTF !!!

You shouldnt need NTTR to install 2.0 and Normandy. If you do, its a bug.

may be an stupid question but did someone managed to get the "brown" loking trees like in this Matt's video at 5:32

 

 

I tried at autumn and all months but no luck...the trees still looking green.

 

Wags uses a internal dev branch, if a feature isnt ready for primetime it might not be merged with a release candidate. Its possible you will see things he has, we dont yet.

Hi,

No sure anyone has mentioned this, so here it goes. On the 109 dogfight mission there is a lone B17 landing. The B17 landing lights are black (not transparent), something similar to the black seen on the tracers from a long distance.

I wonder why I have modern trains in Normandy? Is it neccessary to set the year 1944 in the ME first to get old trains?

 

set the date of the mission to before 1950 and you will see steam trains

This week update, has a WIP image of a C47 with it's side door open. Does this mean that we'll get a paratrooper jump option for this unit? Not sure if this was already asked and answered, but if so, then I'm doubly excited. Although, I'm not so sure my cpu is: a sky filled with a load of paratroopers, not to mention the burning C47's above them, plus the flak bursts, from 88 dmg is making my computer cringe at the thought.

I believe that is the plan, ED has also invested in Intel and AMD stock ;)

I need your help. In order to use Deferred Shading to need to lower my gfx settings. So i tried to disable MSAA and Anisotrope Filterung ingame and set it through the Nvidia driver panel.

 

I can set Anisotrope Filterung but i got no MSAA option. I tried to set Antialiasing in panel, but it is greyed out. How to set MSAA?

 

BTW, there is MFAA in nvidia panel - should i set this option? I did not see any Antialiasing effect in cockpit when it is enabled.
