HUD Projected Image too Wide for Proper Eye Point

Recommended Posts

Issue common with A-10C

When view point set to proper virtual pilot eye point HUD projected image extends beyond borders of HUD glass / frame drastically.

HUD projected image is contained within the HUD frame when pilot eye point is placed very far ahead of seat head rest position.

The issue with this is that in order to achieve proper FOV while flying eye point at the virtual pilot eye point is necessary and at this eye point no useful HUD info is seen (knts, altitude...). In order to see useful HUD info eye point must translate forward to almost ahead of the stick and much of the FOV outside of the HUD frame is lost.

This is a big problem with 4K displays as reading the HUD text at a viewpoint of the actual virtual pilot eye point is very feasible given the increased display resolution.

Thinking about this more three things would be needed.

1) Like A-10C add option to reduce text size for A-10A. The font currently on A-10A is very large for 4K.

2) Move position of Airspeed, altitude, and navigation block inboard about 10-20%.

3) move heading tape and Navigation block up 10-20%

No need to move or resize any targeting cues. The HUD eye box can stay the same so no impact to targeting cues or overall calibration. etc...

Can these be done now in any lua files for A-10A?
