F-14A's definitely dropped bombs in combat VF-54 (I think it was 54). Was actually deployed to shore and attached to a F-15E Squadron in the opening stages of OIF to lase for the F-15E's. Because the F-14 RIO's Fishbowl is bigger than an MFD on the F-15E they were able to get more precise beads on targets which is incredibly important for Danger Close CAS or for strikes in densely populated areas where collateral damage must be Minimized as much as possible.

That would be the PTID screen, not the Fishbowl.

I think he was just calling out the use off MK82/83/84 dumb bombs by F-14A and B models.

Even if they didn't use those MK series dumb bombs in combat, they definitely could use them regardless. So I don't see what the issue would be.

All GBU's are kits on Mk series bombs.

Subject line: "A or B never dropped bombs."

Don't try to defend stupidity.

I'm not defending him. I didn't waste 10 minutes of my life finding pictures of F-14's with dumb bombs loaded (surprisingly hard) in order to defend him.

They may be kits, but they are still classified differently in the inventory. They are GBU-12, GBU-16, etc, in the inventory. I can see how somebody might have misspoke though because they didn't know better.

Two of the 1990s Fighter Flings have awesome footage of CBU and GP bomb drops, pretty cool stuff.
