A10 GAU-8 vs ZU-23

My observation in Tacview was the A10 had a 1-2 sec range advantage over the ZU-23, however the statistics show the opposite.

Effective range of:

ZU-23 2 - 2.5 km or 1.08-1.35 nautical miles

GAU-8 1.2-1.6km or 0.65-0.86 nautical miles

I presume the difference lies in reaction time, but this effective range for the GAU-8 seems quite low.

The maximum range of GAU-8 is reported to be >12,000 ft or >2.0 nautical miles

Lots of factors here. For AAA I fire a burst from 1.9nm to 1.7nm slant range at about a 60 degree drive angle; this usually does the trick. Where are you pulling these stats from?

ZU-23 stats from DCS Encyclopedia and consistent with Wikipedia.

GAU-8 from Wikipedia and http://www.military.cz/usa/air/in_service/weapons/cannons/gau8/gau8_en.htm

That's the effective range of the GAU-8 on a tank, against relatively soft targets, 2 mile shots are pretty feasible.

So those of you hitting soft targets>2nm, are you starting to fire before the pipper starts dialing down?
