I tested this in DCS 1.5 and all is good with only one radar.

It didn't fire until I turned up the skill level some, see if that works for you.

Tried again with just one radar and all units set to excellent skill, same result.

Tried it with the tracking and sweep radar, tried again with both, every variation I could think of.

Changed to an SA-6 group, no problem. Back to SA-3,. won't fire.

Oddness

Why not post the mission so that someone can take a look at it... Might help to see why it's not working on your end.

EDIT: Attached a test mission where they're working with the SR, TR, and 3 launchers...

Ok really odd, Yours works fine. I cant use the same aircraft as I can in mine but it works.

I made my own, same setup, doesn't work.

See attached

I tried your testing mission and it worked perfectly. Using a F-86, I reduced altitude from 22,000' to attack the airfield. Sa3 tracked, fired and shot me down.

I tried again at about 12,000' and was shot down again.

Remaining at your start alt of 22,000' tracking did not occur.

Regards..

It's an altitude thing as Holbeach indicates. I was wondering if that was the issue when you said it worked with the SA-6 but not SA-3.

Anyway, the SA-3 in the sim is modeled with a max altitude capability of around 6000 meters. I've attached two missions made with yours. One has the aircraft at 6000 meters (19,685 ft) and it's shot down. The 2nd is at 6100 meters (20,013 ft), and the SAM system does not launch.

Whether or not that max altitude is accurate, I'm not sure. When I checked some sources, they stated a max altitude of 10-14 km. Ours is much less. But, then again, that 10-14 km could be on the odd Thursday in an even month in an odd year with the right weather conditions.

It depends on which missile... but most systems use 5V27 which has 18km max. alt.

The F117 in '99 was hit at 8km altitude for an example.

using the Mig-21, I got, 19,560' with 2 RWS blips, shot down.

19,993' with 1 RWS blip, no launch. Tracking stopped when overhead.

So 6 km (19,685') is pretty precise.

One thing is definite. The SA-3 is a most beautiful rocket.

Testing with the SA-6, is showing this limit to be 8km.

SA-11 shows killing at 16.15 km (53,000') and I gave up at that point.
