Bf 109 K-4 high altitude top speed

Hello,

 

I did a test run with the Bf 109 after upgrade to version 2.5.6. I tested max. IAS at different altitudes at WEP and compared it to historical data. I climbed at about 1000m above target altitude, set the trottle to WEP (1,8ata), dived down to target altitude and let the speed go down on level height until it didn't decrease anymore.

 

results:

590 km/h at sea level - which pretty much refers to historical data

490 km/h at 7050m - which should be at 713km/h according to historical data

 

The attached diagram shows max. speed measurements that were done at "Obb Forschungsanstalt Obermergen" at 11.12.1944. The measurements show data for a new propeller type 9-12199 and for the serial propeller 9-12159 on Bf 109 K4 with engine DB605/ASB at WEP 1,8ata with MW50 injection (which is exactly the configuration in DCS) => the thin solid line "Serienschrb. 9-12159 für K4 mit Sondernotleistung".

This seems to be an ingame bug for me.

Your gauge shows indicated airspeed. True Airspeed differs from Indicated Airspeed the more you climb. Press LCtrl-Z till you see TAS in the info bar at the bottom.

According to my E6B and somewhat hazy memory of how to use said E6B, at density altitude of 23100 feet (about 7050meters) calibrated airspeed (let's assume that equals indicated airspeed, it is usually very close in my experience) of 490kph equals 710kph TAS. Assuming the graph you are using is showing TAS and is accurate I would say this is pretty dang close and not a bug.

No, it shouldn't. The historical data you show has TAS, not IAS.

 

490 kph IAS at 7050m altitude could easily be 713kph TAS depending on air pressure and temperature.

I wish that K-4 could score 713 KPH IAS at 7050m

I wish that also, with this speed, it wouldn’t be a problem to catch escaping Tu-95 Bear targets at quick training missions. Once you close on them fire your first burst, they will defend themselves by accelerating to speeds 109K can never reach even with boost.

Someone from ED team should revise these missions.
