Not sure if it’s been fixed but there were issues with comm 1 and comm 2 being coded incorrectly, so easy comms is prob the best approach until fixed

Haven’t done any waypoints, haven’t needed to before, just wanted to do a bit of a/a refuelling practice. I’ll try easy comms for now

I can't remember if the tanker automatically adds a "set frequency" action when placed or not, but if Easy Comms are on, volume knobs in the cockpit also on, and you still can't contact the tanker, it's probably something missing in the mission editor.

Nothing gets added by default. If you are flying MP then normally check briefing for tanker freq. If you are flying offline in a mission you created then in the mission editor you have to set the second radio to tanker freq. It is backwards in the mission editor...

I just checked what gets added by default. When adding the KC130, only the "tanker" and "activate TACAN" actions are added by default.

It's not under "Advanced waypoint options": look up, that's where the setting for the default frequency is.

Here's a step by step guide that works:

1. Go to Options -> Gameplay and activate Easy Communication

attachment.php?attachmentid=179875&stc=1&d=1519564618

2. Mission editor: add a Harrier. As an example, I have set takeoff from ramp, with no other settings changed.

attachment.php?attachmentid=179883&stc=1&d=1519565356

3. Add a KC-130. I changed the altitude and speed, but no other changes were made (the TACAN setup in the advanced waypoint options is added automatically when adding the KC-130 in the ME).

attachment.php?attachmentid=179877&stc=1&d=1519564618

4. After starting the engine, turn the COMMs volume knobs clockwise

attachment.php?attachmentid=179878&stc=1&d=1519564618

5. Take off, open your communications menu, and press F6 [Tanker Texaco etc...]

attachment.php?attachmentid=179879&stc=1&d=1519564618

6. Press F1 [intent to refuel] -> "Request rejoin"

attachment.php?attachmentid=179880&stc=1&d=1519564618

7. The tanker replies with "proceed to pre-contact"

attachment.php?attachmentid=179881&stc=1&d=1519564618

8. Get close to the tanker and press F1 [Ready to pre-contact]. If you are close enough, the tanker replies with "cleared contact", and reels out the hose.

attachment.php?attachmentid=179882&stc=1&d=1519564618

9. Get your probe out and refuel!

After the last update I don't see racetrack as a selection for the tanker. It only offers Circle.

It works for me on the latest version. If you have the tanker spawning in the air with only one waypoint, you have to add the waypoint action to "Waypoint 0" to get race-track. If you try it with "Waypoint 1" it will only give you circle.

Actually I have 2 waypoints in my airstart, and it's WP 0 and WP 1. WP 1 that's not giving me the racetrack so I'm going to just do it manually for now....

Why would you have to give it the racetrack option at WP0 when it's has to do it at WP 1.....little weird if you ask me...but I've seen stranger things in this game. Thanks I'll look into it...

That's not the Comms for refueling, and will not work. Without "set frequency" under Advanced Waypoint Actions you cannot contact the tanker.

Works just fine for every mission I create...

You need a waypoint AFTER the one for which you try and start a racetrack pattern

  • 5 months later...

I've created a mission in which there are my Harrier and a KC130.

The mission is set with easy communication disabled.

I know the communication frequency of the tanker and the channel of its TACAN beacon because I've read them in the mission editor clicking on the tanker and reading the advanced waypoint section.

At first I couldn't contact the tanker because I didn't find the F6 option for it.

So, I decided to repeat the training mission where the narrator reminded me that communicating with the tanker is forbidden unless your flaps are set to cruise. Therefore, I went back to the mission and I found out that with the flaps set that way the communication worked.

Unfortunately I have yet to succeed in an aerial refuelling, but that's another story!
