Grodlund
Hey folks! I am asking since I have not gotten around to test this baby out yet. How is this multi-unit SAM working in DCS? I managed to open the Editor and I noticed that under the "SA-2" name there were ony launcher, LN units, and the "Fan Song" Radar. Now, Wikipedia mentions, a typical site would use the "P-12 Spoon Rest" radar for early warning - and the "P-15 Flat Face" is also mentioned. Can a SA-2 site be set up in DCS without any of theese radars, just using the Fan Song? And is it possible to include the Spoon Rest and/or Flat Face as well? Will they actually work togeather and do any difference? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-75_Dvina#Site_layout https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-12_radar https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-15_radar Edited September 27, 2018 by Grodlund "Your pumping days are over, Megatron!" -Optimus Prime "This calls for a very special blend of psychology and extreme violence" -Vyvian
Jonne
Yesterday I was playing around with S-75 and S-125 sites combined with the P-19, which is the only available SR for both. It does seem to work with both types, however the performance of both the S-75 and S-125 was even with the SR rather low. One S-125 site completely ignored a B-52 flying right above it at 12000m. The S-125 will also work without the P-19, something I want to test today with the S-75 too. Detection without a SR is of course pretty bad. A bit OT: Does someone know where a SR would typically be located for a S-125 site? I have found that info for the S-75, but not the S-125. BrassEm
It is in-game now? I will be referencing the link below for my testing. Probably very early integration of assets into the simulation engine so not expecting too much just yet. http://www.ausairpower.net/sams-iads.html www.brass-em.com
Retu81
A bit OT: Does someone know where a SR would typically be located for a S-125 site? I have found that info for the S-75, but not the S-125. That's a partial plaque from Finnish Air Defense Museum, that shows the relative distances between different units. According to it, the search radar would be somewhere within 300 meters from the tracking radar. The museum also has a reconstructed Sa-3 site, although the actual distances are a bit compressed due to space requirements. This is how it looks from the air, the search radar is at the bottom of the picture, below those green transport cylinders: Edited September 27, 2018 by Retu81
Jonne
Thank you! That is very helpful for building realistic sites! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Schmidtfire
For immersion, I hope that either a modder or ED creates the iconic SAM site layout as an object to place the SA-2 units on. The site was usually quite easy to spot from the sky.

Svend_Dellepude
ED probably needs to tune the elements a bit, but it will fire at you. It's just a little slow. try setting AI to high. seems to be the best skill right now. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD. FSKRipper
The site was usually quite easy to spot from the sky. Maybe you should check some reports of the Wild Weasel missions in Vietnam. Sometimes they passed numerous times above a site without knowing it because these guys on the ground were masters of camouflage even when keeping the basic layout. Not everybody tried to style his landscape up with stars which can be seen from space :) EIDT: Here also a layout for some more stuff: http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-Rus-SAM-Site-Configs-A.html i9 9900K @ 5,0GHz | 1080GTX | 32GB RAM | 256GB, 512GB & 1TB Samsung SSDs | TIR5 w/ Track Clip | Virpil T-50 Stick with extension + Warthog Throttle | MFG Crosswind pedals | Gametrix 908 Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Jonne
But that is mostly for Vietnam. You can still see nearly all former S-75 sites in the former Soviet Union very easy spotable via Google Earth. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
