Speech to text issue

Speech to text issue.

Having spent 18 months trying to find a cure for an issue with speech recognition on windows 10 pro. V 1809 Build 17763.379

I have reached an impasse. A wall. I'm stuck.

Some conflict between motherboard and software is preventing me from utilizing VoiceAttack. I found that program to be something truly wonderful. My 70yr old fingers find it very difficult to spread themselves across the keyboard.

My eyes seem about the same age as my fingers, they don’t work like they used to.

That program used to work on my machine. It worked really well. I do remember a large (ish) update from microsft.

You must have....bla bla bla. Since that update, no speech recognition. No VoiceAttack.

For some reason was not able to uninstall that update.

Please don’t tell me to go to device manager.

Please don’t tell me to go to audio properties.

Please don’t tell me to go to reinstall windows.

Please don’t tell me to go to ask microsoft.

Please don’t tell me to go to asus motherboard.

Please don’t tell me to buy another microphone.

Please don’t tell me to check plug.

Please don’t tell me to check cable.

Trouble shooter tells me microphones are working correctly. (Sometimes without one plugged in ????)

Yes the microphones work in other appliances.

Yes the microphones work with other software.

Yes windows registers microphone on setup....Peter prefers bla bla the green line is hearing my voice however it immediately shuts down setup and tells me I have no microphone.

microsoft helpline, no help. Telling me now it’s a hardware issue.

asus helpline, no help. Telling me it’s a software issue.

realteck helpline, no help. Stopped talking to me.

At this point I'm beginning to think my PC will need to be replaced. 2 years old.

I was thinking last night (A dangerous thing for me) could I ask if anyone has an audio driver that definitely works with speech to text? Yeah, I’m clutching at straws.

I have downloaded MANY audio drivers and tried all. No, none have yet fixed the issue.

But 1 last try, is it possible, I'm not asking for your driver, you will need it.

I would ask what number is it. Where can I get it?

Yeah, goin down for the third time. Grasping for air. Clutching at anything.

Below find some, stuff. I don't really understand it but there it is.

What microphone are you using? And how is it plugged in? Using a 3.5mm jack or is it a USB microphone?

In Control Panel Sounds, what does it show for Recording? Do you have more than one? If so, what is the default? Can you post a screen shot of it? Windows 10 has a built-in snipping tool. Click on Start and type "snip" and it'll show up.

Logitech G533 Gaming Headset

Has cordless ability but plugged in to usb. Is set as default.

Generic over ear mic plugged into rear 3.5 plug hole thingy

Both mics work with audacity, SRS, game chat/radios DCS war thunder etc.

Both mics work with other house appliances, other folks pc's.

Approximately 12 different mic's tested. Work with all as above but not with speech.

preventing me from utilizing VoiceAttack

Reinstall windows, windows only. speech recognition does not function.

As instructed by speech "open start"...result= opens browser

"open word" = opens command prompt.

"close that" = cannot understand repair bicycle tyre bazuutoland

please choose an option below or say "spell that"

"spell that" =you get whats going on.................

Set up mic test shows green bar moving up and down but shuts off and tells me there is no mic.

Train your PC to understand you better, read the following, works fine! with both or any mic.

Dictate within word document..."My name is Jo__" = word asks if I wish to save before closing?

Google docs....not a problem, talk as much as an Australian and it writes it all down.

Running VoiceAttack in compatibility modes for win 7 or 8 makes no difference.

I have been strugling with this for some time now, about to give up.

If you think it's too hard you can walk away if you need to.

The "with both mics" concerns me a little bit. I get that it works in other applications. But I would eliminate one mic and test again. But I would do this (with only one mic plugged in)

1) Start, voice recorder (if you don't have it, it's a MS app store app, but I think it comes default with Win10. Just record something and play it back to make sure it sounds good.

If the above checks out, boot into safe mode. Check out https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2304-boot-into-safe-mode-windows-10-a.html

See Option Two step 5. Then 4 to normalize. Test voice recognition with Safe mode to see if you have any success.

Oh, and *just* to make sure. When hit Windows + H key, what do you see at the top of your screen?

It could just be that windows really really needs to be trained on your accent. But that takes a lot of "correct that...." before it kicks in.

Two plugged in, one plugged in makes no difference now. All I have for last 9hrs is blue screen.

Win+H used to bring up a record window from memory. All mic's here record voice and sounded clear on playback.

Just blue screen. Goes through BIOS, then blue screen.

Yes now OK, the blue screen has gone somewhere else????

Among the microphones I have there is one part of a web cam. Logitech C 190 HD Pro.

I did try it once, seemed to work. I will dig it out and plug that in. Worth a try.

Blue screen like blue screen of death/crash? Did you catch the stop error code?

Did the safe boot do anything?

Not got around to that. Crash log, what’s that?

Spoke this morning to a passenger who gave some advice.

All the attempts to fix this issue, plug/unplug install/uninstall/re-install could mean that I have inadvertently ended with a "mod soup"

I may have created a circumstance of masking the problem, with the cure.

Or, I may have cured the problem although now masked that, with this leftover soup mix.

It was suggested, and to me makes sense, to perform a "clean" install of os.

Do nothing with it but test speech (as this feature seems so desperately important)

Using ONE microphone. Advised the one with the webcam was ok (ish).

Now the odd bit.

If speech does not work, the advice was to then re-install another copy of os.

Don't use the same stick, go and get another copy, wipe the usb and from the wabsite create a new install copy.

The explanation for this was that not every install is perfect.

If microsoft download contains an error, that’s going to cause issues.

Windows is not infallible.

All this talk of soup has made me hungry, and also curious enough to consider the extra happenings taking place. The blue screen hang, for example.

It’s not a biggy. I can do it, it’s an achievable goal. I will do that.

And eat something.
