wizav
I got bf109 for dogfight, is anton good enough for bomber intercept missions and bombing? I would like to get Anton over Mustang (not a great fan) but only if it can bomb as well as mustang? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
iFoxRomeo
Why don't you test it for yourself? You can fly all the warbirds till May 18th https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/2020-04-17_FT_MONTH/ The Anton has weak performance at high altitudes. 6000m is okay-ish, but it is challenging at 8000m and more. But if you get your guns at the bombers, the bombers fall quickly from the skies. The Anton is currently the worst dogfighter, but good for bombing, as she doesn't all apart as quickly as the others when getting hit by ground-fire. oreste
Anton is a fun plane, I prefer it to the Dora which makes it better at high altitudes but it is not as reactive and agile as the F8. With Anton it goes up to 500 km / h in a flash because it has a really strong engine, for me it was the best with radial engine.Good weapons for machine-gunning on the ground and bombers, also for now in the game it almost never overheats. msalama
The A is a very capable ground attack platform and sheer fun to fly. Heartily recommended. The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

I would like to get Anton over Mustang (not a great fan) but only if it can bomb as well as mustang? The Dora was developed to engage the high-altitude bombers and fighters Because the Anton struggled at those altitudes. The Spitfire Mark IX was developed to beat the Anton which was beating up on the earlier Spitfire Mks. That should give you an indication of what you should be considering. The Anton is said to be a really good A2G plane. With four 20mm cannons and two 13mm machine guns, plus bombs and rockets, the Anton is probably better than the Mustang in the A2G role. msalama
That is not a very high bar to reach... Huh? I respectfully disagree with both of you. While the A is an excellent ground attack bird, the Mustang definitely isn't any worse. The P-51 is a very stable and accurate gun platform, and those 50cals can kill even APCs if you get enough bullets in. So maybe it's just... ahem... you? ;) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. P-51 is very vulnerable enemy fire, you know liquid cooled etc. It will be very common to get out because coolant venting. msalama
Yeah Graf, the new DM may make it more challenging, but because the guns are so good it'll still stay in my operational hangar ;) The DCS Mi-8MTV2. Balzarog
It would be great if we could remove guns on wings for more power in AA combat They actually did that when the replaced the radial engine with a liquid cooled inline engine. They called that variation the D9 Dora:) When all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! i-7 8700K Coffee Lake 5 GHz OC CPU, 32GB Corsair 3200 RAM, GTX1080 Ti 11Gb VRAM. So maybe it's just... ahem... you? ;) I was not talking about the game, I meant historically. The P51 was not much of an attack plane - the best thing about it was that after it released the ordnance you had a decent fighter in your hands. In the last stages of the war the escort fighters did not have much of an opposition in the air so many of them were used as fighter bombers - spits too. Flying low over intense small calibre fire with your radiator hanging underneath is not good for your chances of returning home. “Mosquitoes fly, but flies don’t Mosquito” :pilotfly: - Geoffrey de Havilland. ... well, he could have said it! msalama
I meant historically Well, that's true up to a point at least. Which makes me wonder why exactly didn't the U.S. use whatever P-47 stock they still had available instead of Mustangs in Korea... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. Balzarog
Well, that's true up to a point at least. Which makes me wonder why exactly didn't the U.S. use whatever P-47 stock they still had available instead of Mustangs in Korea... Well, I did a google search on why the P-47 (or F-47 as it was designated just a couple of years before the Korean conflict) wasn’t used in Korea for ground attack instead of the Mustang. The reason appears to be lack of spare parts due to post war funding cuts, and the attitude of the Air Force top brass that anything that was not used for strategic nuclear bombing was not worth spending funds, that could be used for the strategic bombers, and was wasted spending. The Mustang was so vulnerable to ground fire That some Air Force commanders did in fact fight to get Jugs, but there were none in condition to join the fight. And that my friends, is why I’m sooooo thrilled that DCS is developing the Jug. I can guarantee that it will be a first day buy for me, regardless of the release status. msalama
OK, so that's how it went down. No wonder some folks didn't like the Mustang, because it indeed is pretty vulnerable with its Merlin... msalama
And BTW, lack of original spare parts and no new production was why the Turkish post-war Anton A-3 fleet was grounded after only two years of service in 1947 as well.
