Steel Winter - a Multiplayer co-op campaign for A-10C's & A-10A's

Recommended Posts

Thankyou for this, can't wait to test it with my wingmen. There's only 3 of us though, so would this be a problem, apart from a few extra targets?

Just need to find a min of 2 hrs where we can all fly together without annoying the wife's!!!!!!!!!

Cowboy10uk

Have flown this many times with just 2 players, so just try the standard version for 2 to 4 players first. With 3 players you should finish in under two hours.

If this is not enough of a challenge, try the alt version. It plays out the same, just has more targets.

Mission three teaser.

The Gauntlet

It’s our fourth day at Mozdok airbase and the weather is getting worse. Sorties have been reduced somewhat due to snowstorms and supply problems, but we still fly when conditions allow. We have inflicted much damage to the General’s forces that have attacked us, and are looking forward to going on the offensive as soon as the rest of our assets are in place and our missing equipment arrives. Crates of our equipment, including the TGP’s, turned up in Germany and are at this moment being loaded into a pair of C-130’s for transport to Mozdok.

Yesterday, tanks and armored vehicles of our Multinational Force engaged a buildup of the General’s forces several klicks southeast of Mozdok airbase. The battle is now over and our armor is coming back to Mozdok to repair, rearm and refuel, and to get medical treatment for the wounded.

Mission three will be to escort three Tank Platoons through “The Gauntlet” (the name given to the area just south and east of Mozdok airbase by one of our Tank Commanders). This area is full of natural cover and terrain features that make it perfect for springing ambushes.

................... coming soon!

In the name of the HUNAF community, thank you for this campaign. We played mission 1 with 6 and mission 2 with 2 players. Absolutely brilliant. Top class A10C coop sorties. Keep up the good work, we are waiting for mission 3!

//Mozdok, day 4, the target pods are still missing ;)

Been playing these missions really well put together, Along with the story line.

Thanks for the input. There's not been much discussion here so I was wondering if anyone was truly enjoying these.

Im normally fast moving and really dont use the A10C, We had 3 of us, If your first starting out in single player or multiplayer on the A10C i recommend this. Some input i could add and DCS in general misses it alot and thats static sound comms from a Jtac or tower. Other than that look forward to the next mission.

Master Arms had a go at msn 1 last night. We completed the first two tasks but had to RTB after that due to event time limit.

We ran the mission with 2 flights. One flight primary CAS and one flight orbiting and standing by at a pre-set point. This way we didn't end up with a total furball over the target area. We always had a flight on target, one flight ready to engage or were rearming, refueling.

Feedback:

Really nice mission with great voice overs.

Easy to adjust difficulty by limiting loadout.

We had problems locking onto targets with AGM-65H.

Area mesh too flat with poor textures. Possible to move the scenario to a place with more terrain?

Flights need to get some radio transmission regarding the Mi-24s.

Thanks! Looking forward to mission 2.

Thanks for the feedback Rivvern.

Really nice mission with great voice overs.

Thanks, the voice acting gets more intense in subsequent missions.

My other replys to Rivvern may contain spoilers so don't read on until you've flown the mission.

Easy to adjust difficulty by limiting loadout.

and there's plenty of time when you first jump into your cockpit to customize your loadout.

We had problems locking onto targets with AGM-65H.

I have had complaints on the H's but also on the D's. I'm pretty sure the default ED textures are to blame. Hopefully the move to ver 2.5 with the new textures will be an improvement. We are using Starways textures which makes it easier to see and lock targets with both the H's and D's. Please feel free to chose your favorite mavs before starting up.

Area mesh too flat with poor textures. Possible to move the scenario to a place with more terrain?

Trying now to simulate a stark winter environment. You should see this area with Starways textures! Mission 4 will be a transfer flight to another airbase.

Flights need to get some radio transmission regarding the Mi-24s.

The Hinds or other helos accompany some of the enemy vehicle convoys, so heads up.

Wonderful stuff Winston, very nice to see COOP missions getting some love. There aren't enough available.

Only had a quick chance to have a look at mission one, but i had to come and say thanks for this anyway. A good solid collection of COOP mission for DCS is general is something we sorely miss.

Thanks for the comments and encouragement guys. As long as you like these, I'll continue with the series.

Future plans:

Mission four we transfer to a new airbase.

Mission five involves a bit of thievery.

Time for a little feedback, i'll stick this in a spoiler as to not give anything away for those who haven't played the missions yet.

Mission One - Overall a nice introduction to the area (shame this area of the map is so bland, but thats not your fault:))

Mission Functionality - Only one issue we could find here, that relates to the end of the mission. We shot down the SU25's, but received no confirmation or mission end instructions. We did stay on station above the airfield for a good 10 minutes just incase.

Asthetics - The objects around the airfield are a nice touch, my only concern in this area would be the assets "technically available" to the airfield. It was rather amusing seeing a Patriot and Hawk site on the airfield, yet those pesky SU25's managed to waltz right in.:pilotfly:

The UAV's were a nice touch, i didn't even know the control trailer objects were in the game. It might be worth maybe adding a little bit to the briefing, possibly explaining how those assets aren't operational and maybe make them look like they're being set up. In the UAV case perhaps, the control trailers have arrived, but not the UAV's themselves. Opening up the possibilty for them to arrive and be used in a future mission.

Thats all i can think of right now, but i'll keep thinking on it. We're gonna be doing mission two over the next night or two. So i'll let you know how it goes...

Thanks for the feedback Shadow.D.

Did you not get a mission complete or a RTB message just prior to the Frogfoots showing up? If not I'll add this to the list of things to check the next time I modify these missions.

Questions with spoilers for mission 2.

When attacking the convoy att steerpoint 3 (i think) we got jumped by MiG-23. I wonder if they scrambled because we came to close or if they were ment to spawn anyway.

One A-10c survived with one maneuverkill and one gun kill. :)

Answer for Rivvern

Yes, the MiG's will always spawn. Think of it as if the enemy vehicle column called them in when they saw you. Beware as the MiG's are very aggressive and you need to dispatch them asap while evading their AA missiles.

Thought I'd post a few tips here for Mission 3 to cover some questions people have had.

Gameplay tips:

1. This is a really long mission taking around 2 to 2.75 hrs to fully complete. If you don't want to play that long see the spoiler below.

2. Many of the voice overs are dependent on the health of the friendly tank platoons. If you protect them they're happy. If you do poorly they will ...... well...... I'll let you figure that out for yourselves.

For those who can't or don't have the time to see the mission through to the end, you can always shorten the mission by performing a "Mercy Killing" on Group Three when it appears at the penalty of committing fratricide. This will trigger a jump to the mission ending sequence, which you don't want to miss.

Mission four teaser

The Highway of Death

Since we arrived at Mozdok we have beaten back every attack by "The General" and have inflicted severe damage to his land and air forces. It would now seem that he has had enough! Last night a large convoy of his vehicles was spotted leaving Nalchik airbase and another vehicle convoy is, at this moment, departing from Beslan. Scramble to your A-10's that are armed and fueled, and standby for an in-cockpit briefing. "C" models are equipped with our new found TGP's so use them to locate and takeout any air threats in the convoys first.

Here's our chance to keep the General from relocating these men and this equipment to another area where he can continue to terrorize the population. With a Predator drone to keep an eye on the two convoys for you, you must destroy nearly every vehicle to complete today's mission. Begin by attacking the Beslan convoy as it is closer, then locate and attack the Nalchik convoy. Beware of his few remaining attack and fighter aircraft. You will have one F-15C or F5E to provide top cover for your attacks.

...... coming soon.

Thanks for the input. There's not been much discussion here so I was wondering if anyone was truly enjoying these.

Haven't flown yet, but intend to with a human wingman.

Good missions never go unnoticed for long, I hardly fly except on weekends, so I tend to grab any promising missions and archive them for evaluation later on, then try to convince my fly buddy to give them ago with me.

The lack of discussion could mean that the flying population are busy flying the missions, instead of talking about them.

As always it is very much appreciated by myself and others I am sure, that you take time out of your life to entertain us with said missions.

Kind regards, Ian.

Mission five teaser .....

Operation Grand Theft

It's now Spring and we have transferred to Kutaisi airbase in search of the General. It's taken some time to locate him but we now have good intel that he's hiding out at Kobuleti airbase and in the process of rebuilding and recruiting. Images from one of our Drones show him in posession of a particular Su-34 Fullback Bomber that was recently equipped with a new top secret weapons and avionics package. The Russian military desperately wants that Fullback returned, .... so we're going to steal it for them!

Our task is to attack the enemy forces at Kobuleti and eliminate all threats so one of our transport aircraft can land there. Recon photos show SAM's and AAA vehicles as well as patrolling tanks and armored vehicles at the objective. A few units are stationed in the nearby towns and may try to reinforce Kobuleti airfield as our attack progresses. We will have a C-130 Hercules available to us, on-board will be an SAS Strike Team and two CIA pilots. The mission will consist of 6 phases:

Phase 1. A-10's (or one Su-25T) will attack and destroy air defenses at Kobuleti.

Phase 2. A-10's will then destroy any and all ground forces at and near Kobuleti.

Phase 3. The A-10 Flight Leader will then call in the C-130 to land at Kobuleti.

Phase 4. Once the C-130 has landed and stopped, the SAS team will disembark, move to and secure the Fullback's hangar, and insert the CIA pilots.

Phase 5. A-10's will provide CAS in case the enemy tries to reinforce Kobuleti.

Phase 6. The CIA pilots will fly the Fullback to a friendly airbase with the A-10's providing escort.

coming soon .....
