Helicopter Collective and Cyclic

Very limited market saddly. I would watch Virpil announced a new collective. I would closely follow that.

He is a russian engineer who created an open source project with Arduino and a 3d printer to build helicopter controls.

I'm thinking to start building a collective according to his plans.

He also has plans for pedals and cyclic, but since I already have thrustmaster warthog and mfg crosswinds, and I do not have space for two seats one for fixed wings and one for rotors, maybe I'll build only the collective, keeping my warthog stick as cyclic and my pedals.

I bought the pro flight trainer about two years ago nice if it works in your cockpit setup it is designed for a chair. I later bought used a max flight collective and cyclic I like the design of it getter as I got pieces individually not on a central frame didn’t pay nearly as much but it was used and the cyclic was reported to have problems but I became ill shortly after receiving them so not sure if it was working or not. The later plug in to a central box by r11 plugs iirc nice touch only problem was box wasn’t labeled so I contacted max flight and the sent directions for connecting both. Even had connection for torque pedals. I purchased the collective and the cyclic was tossed in for free. After contacting max flight was told that their mounting designed was modified. The collective was perfect for my purposes. I preferred the maxflight design and function over the proflight the collective was patterned more like a huey than the simple design of the proflight.both used the b4 cyclic setup which was what the huey used.

I'm wondering what these guys are like? The Huey collective isn't available yet though....

Depends if your able to do basic metal work and wood work and can solder you can build your own.

I bought pedals from them. Very solid product and no issues with the process.

Imo the Komodo setup is probably the cost since the collective is changeable iirc. The maxflight I think has a good system nut I haven’t flown either of these two imo the Komodo is like the tm vs the saitek. The maxflight would be the ch and proflight which I do own is the Microsoft. I’m not aware of any that I would compare to saitek. I do own some older maxflight collective and cyclic. But have not tested or used them yet I got them and took I’ll for a couple of months then took a break from my computer (not iPad just PCs) until this month and I’ve been too busy with medical appointments to get back to working on the pit First I need to unbury it. It became a catch all somehow.

Totally agree!. If you have a 3D printer or a friend with one this is well worth a look. There is ongoing development and the designer is very helpful and quick to respond to questions. He is also planning on branching out into fixed wing projects. I have printed the collective Mk1V design and am working on the electronics, instructions for which are also on the site. Check it out!

Not saying how old I am but I used a teletype to send message at onetime so, I know no one with a 3D printer in my case off the self plug and play is what I need

I think I ment to say I have the pro flight trainer puma and it works a little rigid imo the cyclic uses a b4 grip, the collective has a simple head with two buttons and two three way toggles one acts as a mode switch for all buttons on the grip and collective, the pedals are a round slick tube, which gave me problems since I suffer from neuropathy in my lower extremities. Also everything is mounted to the same basic frame another disadvantage as I see it I would prefer a modular setup

So I'm not going to spend $1000 for pro-level heli gear, but I do want to fly with more precision than a cheap stick will offer... one day it occurred to me: the Saitek throttle quadrant!

What? Why? Ok, well my thinking is... it's got a 90 degrees of movement. It's travel is perhaps roughly 5 inches worth. It has three levers... so one for the collective, one for the throttle, and maybe we might be able to use the third lever for a hoist or something?

I'm hoping this will offer plenty of precision for the collective.

Also it's dirt cheap (well, compared to other options other than making yer own!), less than $100 shipped.

there are maker projects on thingiverse etc. for DIY collectives using arduinos and such, MUCH cheaper option if you cant splash for $500+ dollars just fro a handle with a potentiometer on the end fo it.
