Some questions about CA

Hi!

I currently play coop DCS missions with a friend and never tried CA before, so I've some questions:

- Is it possible to play CA in coop style against KI? The idea is to have a commander which has a (limited) strategic view on the map and can assign dynamic waypoints/targets to other players.

- Is it possible to host a dedicated server with dynamic KI actions?

- Will CA run with DCS 2.5 beta?

- How do you setup/start a CA multiplayer session?

Thank you :-)

Yes, it does work.

You'd set up two (or more) instances of 'Tactical Commander' in the mission editor, set up your mission just as any other case. Then, once you join and select the slots, one of you stays on the map and one clicks on 'his' unit and goes for the 'drive this vehicle' button.

Kang has already answered it, but here's a few extra comments, in case it helps.

- Is it possible to play CA in coop style against KI? The idea is to have a commander which has a (limited) strategic view on the map and can assign dynamic waypoints/targets to other players.

As Kang said, yes, you can play coop against the KI.

- Is it possible to host a dedicated server with dynamic KI actions?

Yes. Although you don't need a separate server if you don't want to. In other words, you can host the game and play a commander role, and then let others join your game. This is done by going to multiplayer, and selecting new server and then hosting your mission.

- Will CA run with DCS 2.5 beta?

Yes. However, it is important that all the people joining the server have the same DCS version. So, if you host the mission using DCS 2.5 beta, then your friends will need DCS 2.5 beta to join in. (It doesn't matter if they are using Stand-Alone or Steam versions of DCS... it's just the DCS beta/stable version that counts).

- How do you setup/start a CA multiplayer session?

In brief:

1. Build the mission in the editor.

2. As Kang says, set multiple "Tactical Commander" roles.

3. In the mission options, set the F10 map visibility to Fog of War (or similar).

4. Save the mission and go to the multiplayer section.

5. Select New Server.

6. On the right hand side, click the "(+)" button to add your new mission.

7. Add a server name, password (optional) and anything else and then create the server.

8. Your friends should now see this in the multiplayer lobby.

9. They can then join the server, select one of the tactical commander roles (or aircraft, if you put some in).

10. If you are running the mission yourself, you then need to "unpause" the mission...

... and away you go.

Just ask if you have questions. :)
