The DCS Updater / Launcher GUI Utility Version 2.0 (2023+)

Recommended Posts

maybe it was already reported but "Latest version available" seems wrong for beta, it says 50973 instead of 50793.

best tool ever ! thx Skate

Yes, weird. Seen this kind of thing 2 or 3 times recently. I would have thought that the numbers would have been taken straight from a server.

I concur with the above, but doesnt really matter, does it? Says latest release 2.5.6.49798, Latest Beta 2.5.6.50973, latest Alpha 2.2.0.12843, latest updater 2.9.17.19.

Either you display it right or you don't display it ;) it can be confusing

My Server gets it from the DCS Site and parses to a txt file, which the app uses.

Sometimes the parser doesnt read correctly if at all and I have to go in and edit it, that or something is forcing incorrect formatting,

I'm working on replacing that part of the app as well and bringing the html parsing into the app directly instead of via server to server to txt to app as it is now.

but the built in parsing gets confused as the block for the version number on the site has the href link to the downloader and other text as well.

I want to use the "Custom DCS Launch Scripts" area.

Are there some environment variables set, like BUILD, VR and PRESET?

I want to start different tools for VR and TrackIR automatically.

Would be great to have a number in %DCSBUILD% (1-6) and %DCSPRESET% (0-4) and %DCSVR% (0/1).

MODULES: To much to list. But I stopped buying more, because of too much bugs in e.g. A-10C(II). @ED: Fix the bugs and I spend money on modules again. Promised.

ALL GOOD! RE: v06.12.2020.1 / 1.1.0.1033" - Specify Custom User Profile Folder

Hi Skate Zilla.

I just Installed v06.12.2020.1 / 1.1.0.1033"

(1)

The DCS Updater Utility starts up in 3 seconds now that the Update Server Status is disabled.

(2)

It was easy/common sense to Specify the Location of my recently Moved User Profile Saved Games Folder

(3)

Once I deleted the "Duplicate Saved Games" Folder and relaunched DCS Updater Utility.exe the DCS Update Utility Folder and DCS Update Utility.log were all created inside the "Special" Windows Saved Games Folder - Working as designed!

I always liked this handy Utility; Now I like it even MORE!

Thank you, Mr. SZ.

Cheers JJF.

This question has probably been asked before somewhere, sorry for that.. But it seems the utility is not detecting my DCS install. Could anyone point me out how/where to browse to the correct installation folder?

I installed DCS on my work laptop for mission editing purposes, so I chose a specific install location: c:\00data\mbs\My Documents\mbs\Prive\DCS World

If I choose "select a build" I don't see my install listed (see screenshot)

What does it say on the "Application Settings " tab?

I'm quite sure you have to manually set things up there. I had to at least. Have never tried with default DCS installation settings, could be it.

Anyway, go to the tab. Set the settings manually and I'm positive you're good to go!

Cheers!

MAXsenna is correct. Just view Skate's video on page 1. It explains all there is to know even though it is a little out of date.

App does not auto scan for builds, user must specify paths,

I have partially coded a default location sequence, it may be available by next build.

App doesn't seem to be recognizing my DCS install path.

on my setup its Q:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta. App shows a red box.

did you set that path in the App's settings screen?

I'm sorry. I see now

After all the work you've put into this, I'm a bit ashamed I didn't take time to watch your instruction video

Hi Skatezilla

First off - thank you for creating this. It's a great idea.

Second, is there an updated video on how to use it because the video on page 1 is a significantly different version to the one out now.

What I'm wanting to do is have one install of DCS with two options - the first to load with 2D and very high graphics and the second one to load with slightly lower graphics and in VR.

Anyway - no matter - I'll watch your video as the info might still be in that one even though the interface has changed.

Thanks again

I use the Presets for this. Default is 2D with max settings. Renamed one Preset to "VR Headset" with lower graphic settings and vr enabled. Works perfectly.

  • 2 weeks later...

Do you know what would be really nice? A toggle for the UI. I have the utility permanently on my desktop, but it takes up a lot of space.

90% of the time, I am only selecting build and preset, then launch. Most of the other time is taken up with Update or Repair.

Having a toggle to just show build, preset and launch would be amazing, and then toggle back to full UI.

Hi Guys, can someone maybe help with this: When i have SRS automatically start up as an external application when i launch DCS in the Utility, none of my SRS settings are there, it starts like with an empty config. While if i start SRS via my desktop shortcut or even the SR-clientRadio.exe directly it opens with all my current settings for PTT buttons etc. Any idea why the SRS config is not loading when the Utility starts it up? Thanks for the help!

Maybe a side affect of the app launching the program.

i believe when the app launches it, it launches w/ the "Start In" property as the path for the app. i will have to look into it and adjust the launch code.

Hey SkateZilla, I found the problem that i was having, I was launching shortcuts to the programs. which i use to enable apps to launch with admin privileges rather than require User Interaction on the desktop.

Thanks  Another small issue i have is that i run the DCS standalone server and DCS client on the same machine. The server runs continuously, but when i want to start the DCS client to play DCS i cannot launch it from the Utility because it thinks DCS is already running. I need to close the server first and then launch DCS and launch the server again. Would be great if the Utility can distinguish between DCS client and stand alone server. Thanks!

it still shows as dcs.exe to windows, launching with the Ded. server laumch button shouldnt disable launching dcs after.

Sorry i never noticed there is dedicated server setting button in the Utility  How do i set this up, do i need to add my DCS dedicated server install to one of the empty build slots? And then i can launch the server via the Home screen of the Utility? And with my server running i can then still start my selected DCS client build?

Yes, add the Ded. Server build to the App Builds (name it ded. server if you like).

Click on the Ded. Server Options Tab, set settings checkboxes.

Click Launch Ded. Server Mode.

Once it's loaded, Select your Normal Build and Launch.

You Can Launch. Ded. Server and Normal DCS on the Same Build as well using different settings.

(ie launch Ded. Server Mode then launch normal mode).
