Graphics Question

Recommended Posts

Okay, here is my question. I don't know if this is an issue but it is noticeable enough for me to bring it up.

On the Person Gulf map, I notice my plane graphics are crystal clear and sharp, the water is very sharp and realistic, but the cities/buildings seem a little washed out, almost like there is a film over the screen. On external view I have a crystal sharp high definition aircraft but low definition, by comparison, ground graphics. It is that way even at very altiude, low enough to crash into a building. The city graphics are crystal sharp in the YouTube trailers for this map but not in the actual game. Is there something with my PC? Or is the map programmed this way for framerate purposes?

My specs if you need this info:

I have a 4 year old PC with i7 4700 something, 32 mb of 2800 RAM, and a RTX 2080. My monitor is 4k and I'm running the sim at 2560 x 1440. When I try 4K graphics half the game screen is pushed over to the right and dropped lower. Instead the graphics being smaller at 4k they are bigger, swallowing up the screen. The only game I have that does the opposite of all other games when I try run it in 4k. Weird. But I'm mainly concerned about the resolution of ground and buildings.

Almost forgot. I tried to correct this problem by selecting something in the system setup called "BOKEH." What is that?

I know bokeh is a photographic effect where things are blurry around the outside but your subject is in focus, has to be similar in the game.

It was blurry before I selected Bokeh. I thought Bokeh would fix it but the graphics look the same.

Is this the super secret key-press that makes DCS look like the update videos?

In the Options menu under Systems, make sure "Depth of Field" is turned off. Frame rates will improve also.

Intel I7-3770K 4.1Ghz water cooled, 24GB Corsair Vengeance 1866Mhz, PowerColor RX5700XT GPU, Asus P8Z77-V LK motherboard, Windows 10 on 64GB SanDisk SSD, DSC on 500GB Samsung SSD, purchased Cyberpower 11/27/2012

What does that do?

Puts the game in true full screen.

Does not affect the quality of the graphics.

I noticed that in the latest Open Beta Update something changed with the Draw Distances. Extreme now looks like what High used to look like. I dont know if that is on purpose or a bug or just on my side. For instance, if i was in external view on a plane at Shiraz and zoomed all the way out, i was able to see the whole city of shiraz with the draw distance option at extreme. Now i can barely see 10% of the Buildings at the lower end of the city

You can force much higher draw distances with a simple edit to the graphics.lua:

line 335: Extreme = 3.0;

this will effectively double the render bubble around you, terrain mesh lod, structures, etc will be drawn at twice the distance.

edit: you can also see how it looks from my last twitch stream

Hmm, tried that some time ago, in 2.1 iirc. Got some weird arifacts after some time over Vegas tho. Haven't tested it with the PG Map yet. I'll try that again, thank you ;)

edit:

Back then i also increased the resolutions in the terrainoptions41.lua , might have been a conflict with that.

It’s alt + enter that does that. Control + enter brings up the input box, I think.
