MikeMikeJuliet
Guessing why no mention of new light system or new water in the features list: maybe they are included in the new map format and technology? Bye Phant The new tech and format is the same we already have with NTTR and Normandy. The new caucasus will not bring any new map formats tot he table, but rather recreates the old Caucasus in the format the current Alpha uses. Though of course there may (and probably will) be changes or additions to the technology (it is still in Alpha after all), but that doesn't really change the gist on the map techs. I don't know if you have noticed, but 2.1 uses the new lighting and water physics already. ED Team NineLine Posted July 25, 2017 ED Team Share Posted July 25, 2017 Are terrain shadows gonna be prebaked/painted on as they are in NTTR or will terrain shadows actually react to the position of the sun? Shadows are not pre-baked/painted, but they are not dynamic as well, the positions is updated at a few points over a 24 hour period, this is a balance between performance and quality. Dynamic shadows was attempted early on internally I believe, but was too much of a hit based on object count, map size, etc. Maybe in the future as computers improve and ED's terrain engine matures we will see more on this... Obviously its going to be better on high end systems, but I dont think its requirements will be any different than NTTR and Normandy at this point. Not to get too far off topic but an option to turn off LOS might be an idea. In Normandy, lots of opposing ground forces seems to slog things down. On my older machine anyways. alexbap
Two questions: -What about AA in this new render engine? Are there any good news already about its progress? Right now, with Nevada, we have no AA with ugly jagged lines and playable FPS or nice visuals but umplayable stutters. -The area covered by new Caucasus is the same as before? We now know why is Crimea out of question, but what about south, Turkey. A couple of bases there would bring a new level to this scenario. 1 Windows 7 Professional x64, EVGA GTX 1060 6GB, Intel Xeon W5650(i7) @ 4.1ghz, Asus P6TWS motherboard, 24gb DDR3, 500GB SSD. ED Team NineLine Posted July 25, 2017 ED Team Share Posted July 25, 2017 yes. 2TB I think you will be fine once things are finalized... even now, Normandy runs better internally for me, and I imagine it will get better with new effects, clouds, etc. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

ED Team NineLine Posted July 25, 2017 ED Team Share Posted July 25, 2017 Hey SiThSpAwN, Thanks for explaining that. If one was interested to see ones PC "melted" first hand, is there a demo that could be used as a benchmark? No, this was a few years ago when EDGE first hit our internal builds, and have long since vanished, I am sure they might consider revisiting as things mature, just not happening right now. Also, melted PC might be overly dramatic, but I can remember early FPS being in the sewer... Honestly if we had the entire earth modelled and we had 12 hour flights, I could see this being an issue, but many missions aren't anywhere that long, and the transition of shadows is really not that noticeable in most cases.
