Originally, all Cuban Mig-19 in service had the common polished metal skin; however, after the Cuban Missile Crisis, given that the bare metal skin was too visible for recon planes, the fighters were camouflaged. All were ultimately retired after less than 5 years of service in 1966 (while the first operational unit was in late 1961).
