ED Team NineLine Posted December 7, 2017 ED Team Share Posted December 7, 2017 The new features that can come with the new DRM have some good upsides...there is a concern about the flip side of giving them full control however. They would now have the ability to suspend/revoke your ability to play the modules you purchased quite easily...just like suspending your ability to use the forums. I think it would be disastrous for them to do so...but anything is possible. This is sheer nonsense and fear mongering. We have rules on the forums, if those rules are adhered to there is no issue, 99% of the forum membership get this. As such, when you buy the game, you adhere to rules, the EUA, those ones state that you can lose your rights to the license if you break that agreement. The forums and the EUA for the game are separate entities. No one banned or suspended from the forums has ever lost their access to DCS. No one ever will. To suggest that the DRM would be abused because someone has a grudge is highly insulting and disrespectful. ED is not doing anything that any other software company is doing to protect their livelihood. And they shouldn't be shamed for that either. cthulhu68
You can change your hardware or install modules as many times as you like, you will not loose your module. It's yours, forever (as long as you have access to your account). It's just that the current DRM system (Starforce) also restricts customers from their bought modules. It's even forever and not only temporarily. I mean it's just another group of people that is affected by the new DRM mechanic (the ones without internet) whereas the old system affects people that frequently change their hardware or for whatever other reasons need to re-install (I am very close to loosing two modules due to that). . Just like to point out that there is no risk of you losing a module or having to re-purchase with Starforce. If you run out of activations you're furnished with one a month from that point forward. Yurgon
In previous Starforce discussions, the point was often made that activations would generate at a rate of one per month after all activations have been used up, thus reassuring us that we could continue playing and activating DCS if ED ever went out of business and/or the activation servers went offline. Of course I'm hoping for a bright future for ED, but if the company were to go out of business, what reassurance do we have that we will be able to play DCS after that? Edit: OTOH I must admit that the prospect of an offline only mode isn't too bright, either. If the login servers go down and we can't do MP, DCS would lose about 98% if its appeal to me, and I wouldn't care all that much if it was still available in SP. No where in my post I implied ED is "Stealing" anything. I said protect. One synonym for protect would be, preserve. Myself and others have voiced wanting to "Preserve" the amount of Offline play possible hence the poll. Huckle
Would ED consider a more limited use of software when offline for extended peroids? Rise of Flight allows for quick missions, for example..

jef32
Happy to see your turn back to better solutions. The flight simulation isn't "Call of Duty" and address less people than a blockbuster playable on video consoles by people from seven to ninety old. Just to say that people using the flight simulation are not a majority and the risk to see your work pirated is absolutly minimal. With the DRM, I feel like if I had thrown my money in a well. If, as you say, you allow a single mode like the offline steam mode, all is OK for me. Now, i stay careful until seeing in real the materialization of your decision. I will not miss to do the test, when it will be effective, by unplugging my internet cable. And I wish to ED team and all users, a merry Christmas. 3WA
Well, I'll say what I've said before. DRM on this sim is WAY OVERBLOWN. This isn't Call of Crap or ARMA. There aren't 30 million pirates plotting to pirate this sim. I can count on 1 finger the number of people I know who play flight sims. Me. And I'm a hardcore gamer. :p No 12 year old pirate is going to try to steal a game that has a 700 page instruction manual. Anyone that does is going to fire it up, scream and curse trying to play it, and then toss it off their drive. As I recall, I think someone cracked A-10C years ago. It was a total failure. NO ONE wanted it. Just put it on Steam like Arma, Call of Crap, Battlefield, and all the other Big Studio games do. It will be fine. No one is going to pirate it. You'll probably end up with a lot more customers. Why are you so worried about kids who would never have bought from you anyway? Please your Real Customers by not overdoing the Copy Protection. The cost of Hotas joysticks, MFDs, TrakIR, etc. alone will stop any piracy, as they really are needed to play this sim decently. Pirates are poor and won't bother spending on anything greater than a mouse. I, for one, am happy we're getting rid of starforce! THIS! I FREAKIN HATE Starfarce. Every time even the tiniest thing changes on my machine, I have to go looking for my Keys. It's REALLY ANNOYING!
