That's a lot to catch up on!

Wow, looking very good and it has the airfield where my dad spent his time during the war, Tangmere :)

Glad to see the south coast of England being included in the map, even though at lower detail etc. it should bring a lot more options to game play.

I've not even had a chance to fly the spitfire yet, hopefully life will get back to normal now.

with southern england included gives a very defined enemy vs allied usable arena

escorting bombers over the channel, defending airfields , dog fighting whilst trying to get into france to a strategic target etc, this really opens up DCS to some exciting simulated adventures

looking forward to this & will pickup the spitfire whilst i'm at it

Interesting about Wags talk about two trains types, allied and axis types?.

Not sure if Racoon can talk someone about them and if the "planed" logistic train / truck system go forward

Train types will change from 1944 to modern depending on mission settings.

The building, roads and vehicles (traffic) can "change" or has "generic" to simulate the two periods?

I believe that is the goal, so the map can be used across multiple eras, what all will change still isnt set in stone. More info to come. Buildings for example might not change. But again, its still early in and not sure how it will all play out.

If eventually they manage it so that buildings really DO change, that would be awesome. But it would be a huge amount of work I expect... Towns would be much larger in their present form, completely different layouts, builings types and ground textures.

Would be nice for flying the Mirage 2000 out of Évreux-Fauville though.

Ya, that's something that wouldn't be high on my priority list. I would prefer those resources go towards SoH or something.

The map is stunning. Looking forward to just exploring it,.... in the Spitfire of course! :D

Great idea about the time period option though. This will add many many years onto the life of the map giving the option for both WW2 and cold war scenarios on it.

My guess on a release date for the map.......Friday 31st March :smartass:

Meanwhile, my wife said she spotted my first grey hair... So long as I don't have grandkids by the time I can fly on the Normandy map it will be a win.

This tech would probably benefit SoH, and I dont think its development would slow down SoH other than adding extra objects in for some sort of era shift if they wanted to do with for SoH.

:shocking: Yes please!

With the DCS F-14A/B set in the 1980s-90s, it would be awesome to have SoH adjust a bit for the earlier eras (or 1960s-70s for the Mirage III!). From what I've seen, backdating SoH would mostly involve removing the huge unique buildings from Dubai (and Bandar Abbas to a much lesser extent) and shrinking the urban areas a bit. The architecture of the region was pretty stable from the 60s onward, excluding the development of mega skyscrapers in the late-90s.

In any case, Ed might decide to make smaller changes than this, but the idea sounds really great and I'm glad it's being considered.

Thanks for the insight!

-Nick

PS - new Normandy screen shots are beautiful, even in "vanilla" form. :)
