mission editor question

F-18 awesome, but I'm still playing with the A-10.

I'm building a mission to attack a column moving slowly up a valley road. No probs.

But... I'd like to have a Ka-50 orbiting closely above the column providing air cover as the column moves up the road.

Is there an easy way to do this without having an enormous number of waypoints for the Ka-50?

Not for orbit. But you could easily match the speed of the Ka-50 with that of a column.

Like a lot of the mission editor shortcomings, this can probably done with some investment in learning the MOOSE scripting engine. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=138043

I did this with making a tanker stay on station over the carrier using MOOSE with polygon zones, user flags to trigger the next orbit point and an IF THEN ELSE statement. There are other ways that you could do it in MOOSE that are more elegant no doubt, but that's all my brain could come up with quickly. You'll need to learn a bit of lua scripting but well worth the time as you can open up a limitless amount of possibilities.

For example, proper Integrated air defense systems, GCI controlled CAPs, ground patrols, I even wrote a range script that gave you proper bombing scores in both length and left right offset.

I first got into it because of a problem not dissimilar to yours. Six months on and I can run up some pretty nifty solutions now, where as before I couldn't write a line of code in lua. Brew a pot of coffee and start here...

I have made this function for a Reaper orbiting targets with Moose. Orbit task and a scheduler is basically it.

I will definatley look into moose and lua. I'm 'adept' (have used) with arduinos, so thinking of setting up controls and switches.
