HP's Reverb VR Pro Headset

Huh, it defaults to a 200% SS? Can you change that to native? Any helpful vids on it or is it pretty simple to do?
Nope it doesn't default anymore. Wmr rolled it back to default I believe. It's a setting file under the wmr config folders. There was a thread about it on here. It was the equivalent of setting steam to 200% SS but it only did that for the wmr environment like the cliff house and wmr apps. People were expiramenting with that in steam too because with steam you could have it apply to everything. I saw a bit of a clearer image but honestly I preferred just bumping up PD in DCS instead and keeping steam at 100% SS. I mainly use the odyssey for DCS anyway.

Ok sounds good. I want as few variables to screw around with when I get the reverb. With the rift I just use the DCS PD function and turn off all the occulus "improvments", turns out they eat alot of gfx horsepower.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

You just plug it in and windows will download everything it needs. You don't need to roll back unless you want to increase the rendering resolution wmr sets back to 2.0 which is basically the equivalent of setting steam vr options SS to 200%.

You should also download steam vr and wmr for steam vr either stable or beta as you need that for DCS.

Thanks for the information. I will see how things go with the WMR default, but I would like to run the panels at native resolution.

Hunchy,

Are you going to try to extend your Reverb cable? I've seen a Display Port booster box on Amazon but you need another booster for USB as well. I use the ValveLink (both HDMI and USB) box with my Odyssey+ - wish there was something like it for Reverb.

Instead of just saying the Reverb is amazing (we know it is), please figure out an instrument on the default SU-25 or whatever that is easy to read that you know for sure we can't read without leaning in so we can tell the difference and get excited so we will spend the $650 as well !!!

What is your CPU and GPU clockrate? Also, if you run it at 60Hz, tell us if you notice the flicker on bright areas. Thanks!

Also, try to see how low a SuperSample you can set and still get a clear display - it would seem that the Reverb should be OK with just 2300x2300 or so - maybe depends on how much AA you use. Some of us with just a 2070 want to make it work OK.

I am not planning to extend right away as I don't think that I will need to with my current seated set up. A cable extension would be useful for standing games like Blade and Sorcery and Beat Sabre.

I will post my DCS settings and NVIDIA control panel settings when I give my impressions (hopefully tomorrow evening UK time!) I will be trying the Reverb with all the modules I own (Viggen, Hornet, Huey, Mirage, KA-50, F-5E, Warthog and Flaming Cliffs 3). I am especially interested to see how the Mirage cockpit looks, as that was notoriously bad on the Rift. I am also looking forward to assessing how much the increased resolution improves spotting air and ground targets.

By the way, my system specs are in my sig.

I think another 30 mins until live.

Don't want to come across too negative....but what's with all those dark band's when looking outside the cockpit ?

Oh well, I'll find out on Friday if it's the way it's filmed or if they're really there.....

Hmmm - The MRTV video was ok. Everyone focuses on the cockpit. With the o+ and now the Rift S, that really isn't so much the issue. What I want to see is what happens outside...

Carrier - how bad do the lines crawl?

Aircraft - are the lines sharp enough to IFF planes between 1-3 km?

Map - how does it perform when over a battlefield or over a heavily building city like Dubai.

Color me disappointed. He didn't address any of these for me. I know its hard to hold the camera and HMD, but that is something that should have been sorted before the vid. He's a good guy, and he did get to the point this time very quickly, just not in depth enough to make it worth watching unfortunately. If you've seen his other vids, he just retread that ground.

Great. I can stop breathing into a paper bag and repeating " it'll be alright with a 9900K and 2080TI, it'll be alright with a 9900K and 2080TI..." :)

Seems like it runs ok with shadows on. I wish he listed his settings/rig... 1080ti is nice to know, but proc and DCS settings would be better.

Not really convinced by this video, he zooms in in the cockpit all the time, the rest doesn't look that great. Commendable attempt, but I'll wait for a review from someone who knows how to turn autopilot on and spent some time flying DCS in VR so it's not immediately smitten by the graphics.

I'd buy it right away for science, but seems like I'll need to wait longer in the UK.

  • ED Team

Hey everyone,

As mentioned earlier, I had an HP Reverb loaner coming this week and it arrived yesterday. Wow! This is truly a banner year for VR and the Reverb is a huge part of that. I can’t and won’t compare to other products, but here are some of my impressions after about an hour in the device:

  • As expected, the resolution of the displays really sets it apart. Even in cockpits with very small texts, it is possible to read. Clarity is approaching 2D monitor levels and I could see no evidence of SDE. It is a GREAT VR device for DCS World. I personally did not notice any god rays and the blacks were quite deep.

  • I’m personally a big fan of inside-out tracking. I don’t really “do” room-scale VR, so the ease of setup, maintenance of tracking, and freeing up USB ports is a huge plus for me.

  • Even with the higher resolution, I did not notice any appreciable performance loss outside of my expectations given the nature of VR. Performance was quite good.

  • I really can’t comment on the hand controllers because I don’t use them.

  • Comfort was very nice and I felt very “at home”. There was also very little light bleed through the nose area which I appreciate.

  • I have a rather narrow IPD (59), but I was still able to get a great setting.

Later this month I will send the device to our team to allow native support (no SteamVR requirement)

There are a growing number of outstanding VR options this year, and I believe it will come down to your budget available and the features you prize most. If outstanding resolution, inside-out tracking, and comfort rank high for you, I can certainly give the Reveb my stamp of approval.

Well done HP!

Thanks,

Wags

That's good to hear! I can't wait for the no steam VR option too. What type of card were you running the Reverb?

Thanks. I'm sure it will be alright with either card even though the minimum they recommend for the Reverb is a 1080ti. I keep shadows on low/flat anyway so hopefully it won't force me to drop my other settings too much.
