Something's not right here. Single player I'm seeing about ~8GB usage. Seems reasonable and within expectations. However, if I try to join a multiplayer then it hikes all the way up to 16GB resulting in an unplayable game. Task manager screen shot belows shows what I mean. Base line is from the main screen, first blip is a single player session and then second blip is the multiplayer.

I've tried the usual repair, delete shaders etc...

Update: Logs attached.

It's the netcode which needs quite some bit of memory to store all the multiplayer related variables.

An extra 8GB hit for MP related data seems excessive. It's got to be a bug. Interesting that not everyone is experiencing this though as there are a lot of people in mp.

Agreed, ~8GB just for the netcode is indeed quite a lot.

I think you might be on to something Quigon. I just tested this twice and it seems consistent - if I join an MP server with no other clients connected then it's stable (~8GB). If I join any MP server with 2 or more clients connected then it goes through the roof. I'd be interested if anyone can confirm this - screen shots attached showing two different tests using an empty MP server vs an MP server with 2 or more clients connected.

I'll join the choir!

I was just on my way out buying another 16GB since 16GB wasn't enough anymore to get on a populated MP-server. I was thinking "uhm, well. I guess it's the cost of 2.5" but after looking at this thread I came to my senses .... at least until someone from ED says this is by design ;P

I have tried to tune down my settings. Changed Terrain to low,

and also decreased the preload range and visibility. Does not help at all.

My Rig:

Intel I7-2600K @3.4 GHz

Nvidia GTX 970

16GB DDR3 RAM

DCS runs on SSD

I started DCS and logged on to the AO server (with 30-ish players). The total memory use increased by approximately 14GB, but the DCS process only used 7GB. The remaining 7 was nowhere to be found in the task manager, so it seems like there is a memory leak somewhere.

My PC definitely doesn't like loading new parts of the terrain - once it is loaded, fine not too bad except from the odd drop out (but then again what I judge as being fine for other's is unplayable).

(note this is just the map here - I'm not going to even dread what happens if I try flying anything)

If I'm out at sea with some ships all is very good - and very pretty. I likey, I likey very much - bloomin' marvellous - hats off ED! Black Sea is looking VERY nice.

But yeah my RAM hits about 95% of what it can take just on the mission editor. Time for an upgrade me thinks...

Sounds like a memory leak.

The only thing it has in common with a memory "leak" is the word memory.

+1, 4GBs in single player mission with a fairly long load time, over 32gbs trying to join multi

A10C - Block 5+7, AV8B/NA Harrier, F-14B.

Pentium G4560, GTX 1050Ti, 20GB's total, 1x16GB Kingston Hyper X, And a 1x4GB Avexir Core Series kit, fleamarket mouse/keyboard, i swear it works fine :megalol:

Well... I'm a developper since late 1980's and I though chrisofsweden's comment made much sense, so aairon please expand your thought since it looks so clear to you that it is not a memory leak issue.

From wikipedia (I know I know...)

In computer science, a memory leak is a type of resource leak that occurs when a computer program incorrectly manages memory allocations[1] in such a way that memory which is no longer needed is not released.

Same issue, Memory keeps ramping up, then a portion of the memory literally disappears when a MP server spike/asset load is forced, but the consumption is still the same. I was at 10gb usage for the DCS process when it lagged in game and locked up for a few seconds, then I'm at 500mb! the other 9.5 had vanished but was still being accessed. This occurred a couple more times until the game totally locked up, probably when it hit 16, but I was too busy blasting through a canyon near Gaudata to glance at that point.

Nice smooth FPS but please fix this :) I like flying online!

Low settings (all) due to quite old computer but single player took 14 GB of RAM for one default mission lol.

I even didn't try to MP...

I think I can speak for all AKA and friends that have the latest, and decent computer. massive problems, memory leak, or??? Loading times, stopped before loaded, bad performance, stop and go... the list goes on and on.. map does look really good though.. ;)
