The Yak-52 as a WW2 stand-in?

Just thinking out-of-the-box here. I wonder if the Yak-52 could be used as a stand-in for a WW2 aircraft?

I mean, it looks vaguely similar to something like, perhaps, a VL Pyry or a CAC Wirraway, if it was given a new paintscheme. I know the undercarriage would be a bit of a giveaway, but I'm just exploring ideas.

Is there anything else that it could mimic for a 1939-1945-era mission?

IIRC the version flown by the VVS could carry S-5 rocket pods, but even those had no guns. So its usefulness would be very, very limited at best. Some light ground attack and that's about it.

I guess it could be used as a sort of stand-in trainer if you want a busy airfield...

Then again there have been a number of strange aircraft and weapon loads especially in from the WWI to the early years of WWII... so I guess the Yak could fill such a role in a pinch... it does look somewhat WWII-ish I guess.

DAR-10 is a nice one. I've found a few others too (list below). I know the match will never be perfect, but padding out an airfield or as a stand-in for something in special missions is the sort of thing I had in mind. Whether it is armed or not doesn't really matter too much.

We need as much WW2 content as possible, so looking for plausible uses of early-50s/60s items is worthwhile. But is also interesting to see how many designs have similar features. Even if never used, if certainly had fun reading up about these various types.

as an Un-Armed stand in maybe, can prolly dress it up as a Mock Zero.

But it's un-armed.

I'm not interested in WWII planes, so even if yak-52 is something with a very limited (if none at all) combat capability, it will be the only modern and military related prop plane, and I think I'll buy it (not at the top of my wishlist, but interesting anyway). Surely better than - for example - the upcoming christen eagle II, that has nothing to do with military at all (and surely I'll not buy).

It seems you are not aware of RAZBAMs upcoming Supertucano...

And they've got this, a veritable hot rod of a fighter, as well:

Who is this guy? His work seems excellent, but I bet no-one here has heard of him. Hmmm...

Totally agree, everyone want to be historically accurated, but meanwhile everyone could use a bit of fantasy imho

I know this is an old thread, but I've still kept at hunting around looking for ideas. Then, I came across this "RAF trainer". As first I didn't think it was a Yak-52 (because of the conventional gear, exhausts and canopy). I tried to find it by the registration, but only found a different WW2 type (EXAMPLE). Then I found it out: it's a mock-up for re-enactments...

In any case, it is a sort-of WW2 stand in, I guess. Either way, it looks like a nice skinning-project for any RAF-enthusiasts out there.
