Open Nvidia configure screen

Go to 3d settings

Add profile Boneworks

Set Virtual Reality to Adaptive.

Edit the commandline path to Boneworks.exe

Sorry for asking stupid questions... but:

1. How do I rename DCS_updater in Boneworks? Not sure if I know what Boneworks is or what it does.

2. Does it really work inside sim? Is there a visible improvement? I read somewhere that the renderer used for DCS really can't use this new function anyway.

Anyway, I will try to check it out and google this boneworks thing :) I would really like to make this new VRRS to work in DCS :)

Boneworks is a game which nVidia supports for VRSS. I think this method is to fool the nVidia driver in thinking Boneworks is running when DCS is instead and to enable the profile.

In Steam I believe it is DCS.exe rather than DCS_updater?

Results enjoy sharpness with lower settings so higher fps with visuals from higher settings. Example I could barely read the f16 cockpit. Troubles reading is gone without fps drop.

Go to install directory and rightclick on the dcs updater and rename it to Boneworks.

Yes, The nvidia driver thinks it is boneworks and Releases the VRSS option. :D

I saw this:

Maybe you can do it this way so you don't have to rename files.

I tested in P3Dv4.5 till now and dont see is it work. Im affraid not (quality of picture in HP Reverb v2 is the same, but I thik I see fps boost and better working motion reprojection with this 441.87). I have here AA at MSAAx2 level.

Didnt check yet in DCS or IL-2.

Here is this option in NVidia Inspector and here how to set up:

Lower the settings in your game look for sharpness with the VRSS and test it without VRSS. Compare it. Lower settings means higher fps.

Thanks, but I think dcs.exe should be the file to rename also for non-steam versions? That's what is running when we are running the game? The updater launches into DCS.exe, doesn't it?

Anyway, I tried renaming the updater filename to Boneworks, and followed all the steps in the first post here. Didn't see any improvement at all.

Also, according to nVidia, the game must use forward rendering, and I've read that DCS doesn't use that.

That is correct.

Also for reference DCS Updater.exe only runs once every 24 hours when launching DCS, that is when it checks for updates. Otherwise it goes direct to DCS.exe.

I would be leery of using "hacks" to try and force this feature to work. I know I myself will not be doing so, but am kind of a play it safe guy.

Yup. Its definitely a personal choice, but renaming an executable could end up having unintended consequences, so I'm staying away from it as well.

Yes, and you/we also have to make Eagle Dynamics change the game engine for DCS first ;) According nVidia VRSS will only work with games that uses forward renderer. And unfortuneatly, DCS does not. It uses PBR rendering, or something like that.

I tried this trick last night, and it doesn't work.

Replace PBR by Deferred Rendering, PBR has absolutely nothing to do with Forward rendering.

Yes it’s the CES and they need a nice communication with just enough proved working games and no risk to have bad feedback during this period.

They state that Developers won’t need to add VRSS support. So it should be possible to test it soon with every games. It will be a nice technology for sure, I even think it could definitively put all the RTX GPU ahead the 1080ti

I tried it for a bit (not yet with DCS), and I think NVIDIA need to give us more control--for example supersampling options (2x, 4x, etc), ability to adjust affected area or set frametime/fps goal. I'm sure this will come in the future once it is more fleshed out. It is an exciting feature that will definitely help improve VR FPS, DCS developers should look hard into fully supporting this but then again they might not since AMD GPU users might feel left out.
