Searching the forums provides interesting tidbits about the F-16...

Renders of new externals, cockpit, and a fairly recent mention that the f-16 was still being worked on in some capacity.

F16 would be a very quick DCS win, would it not? Given there is Falcon 4 data out there.

Falcon4's source code isnt usable in DCS, not for systems, nor flight model.

Not to mention Illegal

I hope a F-16C gets made for the NTTR map. Would be fun to have a Thunderbirds paint to fly at an airshow.

Don't forget the odd F-16s sitting in the desert someplace :smilewink:

After my first weekend flying F4BMS I haven't touched it since. I spent far more time installing it and getting it to work than I have flying it.

I had a very similar experience. I enjoyed flying the f16 a lot , but the setup and the general UI is complete crap. (especially the keybinding). Maybe DCS just spoiled me.

Anyway i would buy a DCS F16 day one (maybe not day one if i already owned the F18 ) but i'm sure a LOT of people would stick with BMS becouse of its campaign engine.

I do however think those people would also buy the DCS version , just not play it (as much). But hey , the devs would get their money so everyone wins.

I think as soon as the F18 comes out and ground radar is available we will see people making an F16. Will they finish it? I don't know. But i would bet good money we will definately see an F16 "in progress" after the F18.

That linked comment made me grin like a Cheshire cat! I'm sure the F-16 will turn up sooner or later, but it sure would be nice to have it.

I'm sure, regardless of what some consumers think, the developers are reluctant to make the F-16 because of Falcon 4.0.

I read this a lot but I just don't get this argument. I'm not going to detract from the Falcon 4 mods which are impressive. But DCS World is my choice of sim and I'd like the Viper in it. The fact somebody else has created another sim, no matter how good is no reason for ED not to try and better it imo, because if anybody can, it is them.

For now they are hard at work on the base of their sim, DCS2 and the new scenery that will accompany it. Once that is all sorted and stable, maybe we'll start seeing new modules more frequently, I reckon the F-16 is a prime candidate, the comment Skate posted above seems to back that up. :D

Considering already announced projects, I think for the future we could use a Korean War US jet-powered fighter-bomber to complement the Sabre and the Mig-15, such as the F-80 Shooting Star or the F-84 Thunderjet. Then all we would need is the Superfortress and a Korean map, lol. :)

I would love to see a F-117A stealth fighter in full DCS gown. That will be day 0 buy for me. Contributions reserved.

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

That F-117 shot down 7 F-117's? :P

A flyable F-117 would be an interesting addition, but I also suspect it would be more of a novelty than something people would really dive into. It only had 2 bombs, zero air to air ability and was subsonic. Combine that with DCS's omniscient AI fighters, and I don't think it would have lasting appeal. I'm also fairly certain that it's still heavily classified despite being retired from service.

This is a Top Ten list of flyable US FW Aircraft we most likely could see in DCS in the future.#10 C-130 Hercules or C-17 Globemaster III,#9 V-22 Osprey,#8 B-17 Flying Fortress,#7 KC-135 Stratotanker,#6 F/B/E-111 Aardvark/Raven,#5 P-38 Lightning,#4 B-25 Mitchell,#3 F4U Corsair,#2 F-4 Phantom II,#1 F-16 Fighting Falcon.This is another Top Ten list of American military aircraft we probably won't see in DCS because of classification issues.:(#10 F-117 Nighthawk,#9 Modern B-52H Stratofortress,#8 B-1 Lancer,#7 B-2 Spirit,#6 F-22 Raptor,#5 F-35 Lightning II,#4 P-8 Posiden,#3 U-2R Dragon Lady,#2 SR-71 Blackbird?,#1 Future Long-Range Bomber:D

I don't care if it carries 1 bomb, but to be a stealth plane in DCS , now that is a game changer... Imagine online all pilits dlying it, no one can track the other except visually... And even so, wont engage with missiles. Very good for hide and seek. And we all loved playing hide and seek as young people, didn't we?

Even so, MANPADs specialists in CA can have fun too.

Two bombs are plenty, fighters don't necessarily even have to be a problem as the main threats could just be SAM's, and we're supposed to be getting an AI overhaul anyway with 2.0.

People who want to load up with 15000 pounds of weapons and destroy 100 targets at a time might not like it, but that's not the only demographic in DCS. The F-117 would ideally be about precision and tactics to make the most use of its stealth. It should be as interesting to fly as anything else.

I'm still waiting for the Sopwith Camel.

Oh, wait; that was a British fighter, eh? Well, bloody hell.

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

I really want to see the F-111 Aardvark, or the 'Pig' as we called it here in Australia.

How could anybody say no to it! The amazing swing wings, capable of mach 2.5, terrain radar... I could go on! Who wouldn't want to scream through valleys with the Terrain Following Radar and enough ordnance hanging off your plane to blast any enemies into next week. :megalol: :pilotfly:

Just look at it!

  • 4 weeks later...

Another one of those annoying F-16 threads... ;)

Hey guys (and gals, if we have any:thumbup:)

I know that this has probably been gone over ad nauseam here but I thought I would post about it anyway and see if any of you could enlighten me.

Personally I fail to understand how DCS hasn't been graced with at least a FC3 level F-16 yet. It is, after all the most produced 4th Gen fighter of all time, with around 4500 having been built and production likely to continue until 2020, it's being operated by 26 countries around the world and has seen more combat than any other 4th Gen aircraft. It honestly seems bizarre to me that DCS does not yet have a Viper.

I'm not going to bring up BMS, I've been there and that sim doesn't work for me on multiple levels. If you like it then great  but its not my thing.

So I ask, to whoever might have this information, why no F-16 yet? Is it a licensing issue that somebody else holds the licence to simulate the F-16? or what? I've done a bit of googling and found several references to ED producing an F-16 for DCS at some point in the past but that seems to have fizzled out.

Cheers

Deano
