jrsteensen
So, just found this while doing some research. Going to try it out later this month when I get the shop up and fully running. Has anyone else tried this? Basically, etch a 1mm grid into a clear sheet, top with thin white, top with legend plate. Edgelight the grid sheet with LED strip. GSS Rain
Not sure if electroluminescent sheets would work for you. These are kind of expensive but they do have the Chinese copies that sell for less than $10.00. They run on 12VDC. I think they can be hole punched and cut to match the panel in question. Not sure if this would be easier though. Also durability in how long they last. https://www.adafruit.com/product/414?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3fqh1rut1wIVAxppCh0OOwDEEAQYAyABEgKmL_D_BwE
Deadman
There are several problems with EL lighting that have been covered over at VP. Noise from the transformer. Burning out and correctly cutting and sealing them. Surface mounted leds are one of the more popular methods of backlighting panels. But using specific material or this type of etching the panel has been mentioned over at VP What success or failure they have had I can't say I no longer visit that site. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/a-10c-warthog-supplies https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans. jrsteensen
Thanks for the comments Deadman. I don't go over there much anymore myself. I've wanted to dabble in SMD LEDs...do you have any suggestions as to your preferred part numbers for green, red, amber and white? Deadman
No I am very lucky to have all real panels in the cockpit. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/a-10c-warthog-supplies https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans. frogger
ive messed with this before , i build on the cheap and by that i mean i go to the garbage dump and find old lcd monitors to take the back light panel out of them which is normal 3 to 5mm plexiglass with this same pattern. then they very thin Fresnel lenses and some diffusing sheets to evenly spread the light.
