Controls wiped after update

Recommended Posts

This happens every time there is an update. :censored: :furious:

I just jumped into my F-16 in OB. Went to take off no thrusts no aileron none of the buttons are bound.

So I thought ok Ill try & load from my controller profile (.diff )

& what do you know that doesn't work either. In fact it makes it worse.

I know it worked before the update because I tried it.

Now all I'm getting is axis bound to the wrong axis & the usual duplicate controls. So in short I have to spend the next hour going through my controls & rebinding them.

When is ED going to fix this PLEASE.

Hi mrmat01. I'm pretty convinced you're misusing the tools at your disposal. See, you're the only user here complaining about bindings being completely wiped out.

Also, once you redo your controls, please backup your C:\Users\your_name\Saved Games\DCS...\Config\ folder! It holds all your bindings, among other things. If there's one thing to backup in DCS, it's this.

Can you please explain step by step how you "load from your controller profile (.diff)" ?

Please attach your Config folder as a zip file.

No worries I will load it up with a step by step later this evening as I'm out of the house at the moment.

To be honest I just load them up like everyone else. Open adjust controls highlight a control binding & click on load controls. Pick the file & ok. nothing abusive about it.

I'm not the only one that has this issue. I'm just the only one that says something.

Jabbers has even mentioned it in his video's.

Please use picture as a reference.

After opening the options menu & selecting the controls tab.

Step 1. Highlight something in the column.

Step 2. Click on Load Profile.

Step 3. Check to make sure it is loading the profile from the correct location.

Step 4. Select the profile you want to load.

Step 5. Click ok.

I hope this is helpful.

The thing that amazes me most is how your bindings get wiped out when you update your game. This shouldn't be possible.

Please also attach your latest dcs.log by the way.

But that's what is happening.

The .diff file is not compatible with the updated version. It is like The aircraft is a new module. You have to go through & bind all of the controls.

My control profiles were "changed/different" after this update as well. Didn't notice until I took off of course, but I did have to reassign a bunch of things.

i5 11600k 4.9ghz, 64gb 3600, 3070ti, multiple ssd/nvme, Rift S, TM Warthog / Throttle, Saitek Pedals, Nevada, Normandy, Syria, A10C/2, KA-50 3, P51D, L39, Huey, WW2 Assets, VaicomPro

I experienced the same problem WITH SOME A/C not all. IMHO it has to do with what was updated for that particular a/c.

I always make copies of my "profile files" on each of my a/c.

I make copies also but they are not compatible after an update.

If you rename your control assignment file there is no reason ED needs to touch it...ever.

I don't know what you mean?

What dose renaming them got to do with anything?

They are just .diff files F-16.diff F-18.diff F-14.diff. Elma Fudd's f-5.diff. ect:

So really ED never need to touch?

There is no need for them to have any button, switch or axis assignments made by default/edit/overwrite. There are numerous options for different types of switches and adding options shouldn't affect current selections as a development goal. My control assignments are in my saved games folder under a name picked by me, not in the base game files. This is a quality of life gripe that hopefully ED will take into account in the future.

Go & read the post on page one.

I didn't mean that as dismissive to the issue. I agree that this should never happen, ever.

OK guys, back on topic.

mrmat0, I've analyzed your previous .diff.lua file (#1), and it matches what you got in your screenshots (posts 2 and 3). DCS did exactly what you asked for.

Did you check out the #1.1 or #1 file?

DCS did exactly what you asked for.?????? Really! :wallbash:

No it did not this is the whole point of this.

what you looked at is what I get after the update same as the screen shots. A BROKEN FILE!

So what are you saying? Am I just making this up??

There are other people with the same issue. See posts 11, 14 & 15.

You said I'm pretty convinced you're misusing the tools at your disposal. Please tell me how I'm doing that.

The thing that amazes you most is how my bindings get wiped out when I update the game.

Well be amazed because that is exactly what is happening.

I don't try & make bug reports for fun I find this to be a tedious chore because most of the time I'm just :wallbash: But it is an on going issue that is becoming frustrating beyond belief & it needs to be rectified.

I would much rather be enjoying my DCS. Instead of this rubbish. :wallbash:
