Way we not have any airliners?

A DM for an airliner would be complex simply due to the size of the aircraft and complexity of its systems. The $90 cost is what a current high end product like this costs for another sim. No doubt a DCS version would be of similar quality. Since that civ sim versions doesn’t have a DM, it’s a safe assumption that adding one would push the cost higher.

DCS has high standards so I’m picking something of equal quality for comparison.

At last, buuut...

DCS aircraft have just as many complex systems, if not more and they have better graphics, I don't think size is much of a problem to be honest, I'm no developer...

Yep similar quality, but there seems to be disparity between the cost of an aircraft in other sims for not much gain... Just my take, I still disagree with something like an airliner costing 1.5x the average module, I just don't see it happening - when you have very complex aircraft, with very complex FDM, lots of complicated systems, including combat systems, let alone sophisticated navigation systems, better graphics, better well, everything... but sold for 67% of the cost, with continuous development, I'm just not seeing the justification. It's not even equal quality, it's less... But again you can find stuff that's near enough the same quality, that's more appropriate for current maps at fractions of the cost...

Modules I own: F-14A/B, Mi-24P, AV-8B N/A, AJS 37, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.

Civilian airliners

:director: Hi,

I don't think flyable civilian planes are necessary however AI one are because air traffic is a part of conditions of war mainly during cold war state. And the game also suffer from a lack of civilian ships like big tankers, cargo ships, bulk carriers, etc There are big harbors in the Black Sea and big fret lines. During a war, a civilian ships could be such a main target.

But let say I tried the civilian planes created years ago by cdpkobra, Seethos and popChar, on my DCS 2.5.4.2 version, it works, since now I didn't notice any problem, but I just tried the mod and until now I have no other mods working. See the link below

I don't necessarily feel that pilotable airliner modules should be a thing in DCS, especially considering there are other sims out there that are far superior to DCS in terms of civil aviation, however short and medium range transports could very well fill that hole as well as provide something interesting and useful for sim-pilots to do.

Low level, high speed flying in a C-130, C-27, An-12 or An-26, for example, would definitely being something different, yet combat related, to the sim. It would also encourage team work (fighters protecting a transport while it drops troops over an enemy airfield, for example). It could also pave the way for AWAC and AAR pilots/multi-crew platforms - another indirect combat role.

I'd like to see an AI airliner (B737 at least - they're EVERYWHERE: name a major airline that hasn't used at some stage or doesn't want to use any variant of the 737, I'll wait...).

Something to put in a mission to make the airspace feel more lively, as an asset to protect, something to intercept/escort or to confuse a pilot searching for enemy aircraft at long range, or in certain circumstances - a target to shoot down.

That last part may not necessarily be palatable to everyone and it tends to be a touchy subject, not without reason.

Well if someone made, say, a fully-modelled and militarized Yak-40 transport I'd buy it immediately. Not a civvie airliner anymore and has a direct application to DCS in flying in supplies and troops, so there're no grounds for anyone to claim it shouldn't be made. Now whether such a module would sell is another question altogether though ;)

The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Thanks to this thread I checked if there is any scheduled passenger flight between two airports on the Caucasus map and to my surprise there actually is one, which is Pobeda between Krasnodar and Tbilisi on a 737-800. Maybe I will check the other maps too.

Oh, there are dozens of flights criss-crossing the Caucasus map...Mineralnoye Vody/Anapa, Krasnodar/ Nalchik, Mozdok/Sochi, etc, etc. That region is no different from anywhere else.

There are scheduled flights from Mozdok? Thought that would be military only. But I did find another bookable pairing with UTair between Krosnodar and Sochi on an ATR 72.

My error. While it was listed as Mozdok, the actual airport is in Nazran, a stone's throw east of Beslan. For that matter there are flights out of Vladikavkaz, just south of Beslan, too. Both UTair and Aeroflot fly from there to Sochi.
